My Life In My Neighborhood ¨ New Dawn ¨ Diego Colil

When I was a little boy I dreamed to have a beautiful house with a hot shower, stairs, a big

backyard to play with my friends, and a stove because we lived in a house with few

resourcesresourses for example we didn'tdidn´t have a hot shower only a showern with cold

water, without TV, no stairs, no windows so that was a little stressful for my family. We

wantedwe wanted to have a new home so in that moment my mum went to the municipality

to apply for a new home. Sshe felt anxious we had to wait two weeks to receive the news. I

remember my dad said I'm excitedam exited, I can´t wait. Until one day they called my

mother and they told her that she will have a new house in a new

neighborhoodnighborhood with other people and the constructionconstructions will be

ready in six months so we had a celebration with my grandparents. Tthey felt joyful.

Theyjoyful they lent us money to buy new clothes, tables, garage, kitchen, I imagined all

that things we could have. Ihave I started to feelstarted feel that like a new opportunity

because in my last neighborhoodnighborhood it was poor, drugs, gangs, me and my family

wanted a new life, newlife new people, a newpeople new environment.

So after pass the six months passed, and we received the keys, weit started a new

experience. When so we arrived in our home, we installed the beds, armchairs, pictures,

chairs, tables. and the most essential thing waspoint the house was with orange, the

favorite color the favorite of my mum. Tthe days passed and we saw we had new people for

neighbors, for example, I met two boys from another neighborhoodnighborhood ¨ The

Station ¨. They were a very friendly family and another family from Serrano but hey they

weren’tdidn´t were very sociable they talked onlytalkedonly a in few times. Wewe all came

from different neighborhoods but we made the union, besides we had nature, trees,
mountains and amountains a wonderful landscape. The sun always always comesthe sun

came out in the mornings and that’s why for that my street is called New Ddawn.

New Friends with best times

Two weeks passed and I wanted to havewanted have friends to play so one day I was

playing basketball in my backyard and two boys talked to metalked me: Hey, do you want

to play with us? Cum on it will be funny they were Daniel and Marcos, two brothers. Tthey

lived in the front home of our street. Daniel was tall about fourteen years old and Marcos

medium like nine years old. Tthey love to playdo sports and play video games. Wewe had

good times for example all afternoons we played basketball for one hour or sometimes

baseball with another girl of our street. Sshe was smart and beautiful, her name was Sara.

Wwith my friends, we met Sara one morning while we played baseball. Shebaseball she´s

looked at uslooked us and said boys boys can I play with you? Daniel responded no

problem and Marcos felt a little nervous because he was in love. Hhe told Saratold to Sara

she had perfecthad a perfect green eyes but she looked at Marcos like a friend, besides we

went to natureto the nature to watch some animals. for example I loved to see eagles and

rabbits, I remember Daniel used to take photos to butterflies, birdies, fixes, we used to run

in the mountains, usually we ride in bicycles. Iit was amazing to share that experience, to

look the horizon so Daniel told us we are a team always we share great times

Free Times

In my free times I played football with Daniel, Sara and Marcos I remember one day when

we were playing and three boys of another street because they wanted play too one of them

said that I give you Ice cream that was good with my friends loved Ice cream then we
played the match. We won Sara is very agile to take control of ball she moved so fast than

us one of the great moments we had was the movies sometimes we went to the house of

Daniel and Marcos the mum of them gave us pizza so delicious I remember when Marcos

said: I like action movies but Sara said: I like romantic movies then they made a discussion

to choose a movie finally we watched romantic stories like Romeo and Juliet, I found you,

Daniel felt happy he liked romantic stories too but Marcos never saw he preferred series

with action or play video games is his style its okay also we were singing on the corner of

our neighborhood me Sara and Daniel songs like water runs dry, I´ll make love you by boys

II men. Daniel had a perfect voice to sing and Sara played the guitar, I just singed we used

to sing two days at the week the people said Daniel would be singer but he didn’t want he

was a little shy to sing in public.

The People of my street

I would like to say I had very good people because they were friendly for example my

friend of the last home of the street his name was Jose the mechanical he fixed all cars

without a wheel, without motor he taught me how to fix cars in his vulcanizer he was so fat

and funny he loved hearing Elvis Presley everyday also he used to dance when he played

music. Sandra the friend of my mum she fixed clothes for the people of my neighborhood t

shirts, dresses, sweaters, she is careful about her garden the flowers of different and his dog

is a pit bull, so stronger with brown color Ashley she gave some dresses to my mum and

pants to my dad also we had Pedro who was the baker of our street, he worked so much in

the mornings, he gave us bread besides he invited us to his home when the team of Chile

won the America cup it was amazing moment in the story of my country for the first time

the team won a cup in the final with Argentina, we had a barbecue that night.
My romance with Catalina

One day I saw a girl who arrived to the left house she had the brown hair brown eyes and

wonderful smile in that moment I didn´t stop thinking about her one day I went to buy to

store and she was there I felt a little nervous so she smiled me then she said me hello what

your name, nice to meet you so I said nice to meet you too. The days passed and in the

school there was a concert of the best voice and I remember I singed one song about Luis

Miguel so she locked me with her smile then I received all the claps, so she told me:

wooow you have a cute voice. Could you sing me something please? Well, I taked my

guitar I singed one song called I´ll wait you and she felt very happy in that moment, she

hugged me and said: come to my house to see one movie or listen to music and I said I´ll be

there don´t worry. I went to the house; I gave chocolates to Catalina and one jewelry I was

in love next we were sit in the sofa we watched Pirates Of Caribbean we shared good

moments Ashley we listened Luis Miguel and we played in her backyard, Catalina hugged

me with one kiss in my right side of my face and told me: Thanks to give your time you are

cute with your songs, I hope you someday.

Sometimes we went to the river to enjoy the nature and sun also we had a picnic the parents

of Catalina said me was a gentleman always they gave me love because I worried about she

also we went to the park every time we enjoyed ice creams her favorite taste was Chocolate

and my favorite was Vanilla then we played basketball she was very smart and stronger to

run with ball she always won me some days we visited the zoo to watch the tigers, pandas,

lions with others animals she loved pandas.

We were together for two years all was love and we shared awesome moments in the beach

with her family but someday Catalina said: Diego I should travel to Santiago because my

dad is engineer and he received one opportunity to work there, Santiago is my next city. I

understood that moment and she gave me one kiss hours ago to leave her home, I said Is so

hard to say good bye but its okay, the good news were we will in contact about calls,

massages, everything was okay.

Finally I think I had good experiences in my neighborhood I met awesome people they

gave me help, love, clothes and many more I was in love but today she´s very fine and we

talked two times at the week. I don´t want leave this street because the people is friendly,

careful, funny, sociable in all this years we have been united.

Ruthie but Cathy critisized themy for their way of being with the people that they gave

accommodation to others and the place was dirty but thoseat are stereotypes because Edna

and Ruthie wereas very good people with Esperanza they helped her to enjoy with games

and poems, also Ruthie was friendly she gave advices to Esperanza. The other storyie was

Our good day when two girls Lucy and Rachel wanted five dollars to buy a bicycle so
Cathy said: Don´t talk with those girls. You don´t see they have their clothes worn and

dirty? They are ugly, we better leave but Lucy and Rachel helped the protagonistto

protagonist to know much better the street, the town, people who lived there, they showed

The other storystorie was The Rice Sandwich and rice. We can see to Esperanza who wants

to have lunch in the refectory of school because her home is far away and she doesn´t want

to have lunch in other place in school because the refectory is comfortable and children can

stay for several days but when Esperanza was in the line row a nun said: What do you do

here? You can’tdon´t have lunch, the only one who gives permission is the superior mother

so the nun leads to Esperanza with mother then she explains her problem that she can'tcant

have lunch in other place because his house there´s no one during the day but the superior

mother didn’t give permission because she thinks Esperanza lives too near. also the girl

Esperanza cried in that moment because she wanted towants have lunch in the refectoryin

refectory, is the only place, for that the superior mother gives the opportunity for eat one

day in refectory. We can see how exclusionhow did exclusion with the girl in school, all of

us have the same rights, it is necessary to givenecessary give opportunitiesy to everyone, be

tolerant and solidary only that way we could to create union and leave differences.

One of the best moments I enjoyed in this storie was when Esperanza arrived for first time

in Mango street she felt nervous about the future she will live in that place but she met two

sisters Lucy and Rachel they had a good Charisma and invited to Esperanza to riding a
bicycle for that reasons the protagonist knew better the town and some people like Louie,

Marín, besides we can see when Lucy And Rachel showed to the protagonist move your

hips from side to side to feel free like a model because Esperanza didn´t know how dance,

how to make someone fall in love , how see someone, also the sisters showed Esperanza

how walk with shoes and for that way be a miss, this worked because when the girls came

out walking in the town with their dresses, all people looked girls this created more attitude

in the protagonist to talk with others, she felt confident when she won her first job, she

talked with people in the office, all looked her because she was different and beautiful.

Marin gave one example to Esperanza, the importance of have one job to connect with

others and have boyfriend to forget problems and share greats moments also Ruthie told

Esperanza the importance of have own house: don´t worry about the others are talking, one

day you will be free, no one is going to despise you.

For that reasonthat’s reasons Esperanza was strong personally and knew how to start his

life with new values.
