The Legend of Telaga Warna

The story of Telaga Warna was begun from a kingdom in Bogor, West Java, there was a king
named Prabu. The king and the queen wanted to have a child, so they prayed and prayed. Day
passed day, week passed week, month passed month and even year pass year, they kept
praying asked for a child.
Finally, they had a child. It was a beautiful girl. The king and the queen loved her so much.
They gave her everything she wanted. Later on, the princess turned into a very spoiled girl.
When she asked for a new doll, they will give her. When she asked for a new dress, they will
give her. So, people knew her not just by her beauty, but also her strange attitude of never
being satisfied.
One day there will be the Princess 17th birthday. She wanted to celebrate her birthday with
her most expensive jewellery and outfit on that day. She wanted to look like the most
beautiful girl in the kingdom.
So she asked her parents, “mother father on my 17th birthday, can I wear my most expensive
gown and my diamond crown, so everyone can see that I am the most beautiful girl on the
world” said the princess. But her parent declined her idea. They wanted the opposite, her
mother told her to just wear a simple dress with the necklace. Sadly, the princess didn’t like
what her mother’s thinking. But she accepted it anyway.
Outside the kingdom, the people were busy collecting the gold they had to make a special gift
for the princess. The people made a beautiful shiny gold necklace for the princess. Finally, it
was the princesses 17th birthday. All the people came to the kingdom to celebrate. The
necklace was ready to be given to her by her father. Everyone was excited to see.
On the party day, The King said “Dear my daughter, this is a gift from all the people who
want to cherish you, they hope you liked it.”The Princess was shocked when she saw the
necklace. “Father,you know I already have more expensive gold jewelry than this necklace
right?!” The Princess didn’t like it at all.So she threw the necklace to the kingdom‘s floor.The
necklace broke into many pieces and spread out everywhere.Everyone were
shocked,including the king and the queen.They were all sad and disapointed. The Queen was
very sad with her daughter attitude and she started a deep crying. Then all the people in that
kingdom cried. The princess regreted what she had done that she broke her parents heart and
hurt the people’s feeling. She should be more thankfull. But! It was too late. All they tears
drown the kingdom. The water sank the Kingdom and the place became a lake.
Now the village which the story located has a big lake. The lake shows three different colors,
red, green, blue. The lake water color appearance was based on the story that the beautiful
necklace laid down in the bottom of the lake. The lake named “Telaga Warna”.
