SYNOPSIS
Later in life, Nick, troubled by his past seeks help in order to save his family. Nick is forced to revisit a past life that
was thought to have been long forgotten. Going all the way back to the beginning when he was 8 years old in
Newark, 1967. The first day he started working at his father’s diner was the last day he obtained his innocence.
The diner is filled with many different characters, one of which is a cop who frequently visits the diner. This very
same cop is the one who sparks the flame that starts the Newark race riots. Faced with a tough decision, Dimitri
must make a difficult choice in order to save his diner from the destruction of the riots. A choice that forces him,
the cook, and his 8 year old son in a deep web of crime.
Nick
A young 8 year old kid, witty, social, and adventurous.
Nick tries to make the best of working in his father’s
diner for the summer, but that becomes a bit difficult
when things go up in flames on the first day. Nick has
made what some would consider an unlikely friend in
the kitchen cook, Lloyd. After a tough decision made by
his father, Nick soon finds himself trapped into a web of
crime. Despite his young age, it’s a web that he must
learn to quickly navigate through before it’s too late for
him, or his father.
Dimitri
A Greek native in his 30’s, who is self centered and a
survivalist. A traveller since his younger years, has
eventually found himself settling in with his wife and son
in Newark, New Jersey, where he opened City Hall Diner.
He was able to find free labor in employing his son, Nick,
for the summer. In what was suppose to be another
typical summer, some of his regulars in the diner soon
make life difficult for him, forcing him to make a tough
decision that will put everything he has built in jeopardy
and change the trajectory of the life he was thought to
have finally made.
Lloyd
The humble, funny, and wise old cook in the diner.
Originally from the south, this World War II Veteran was
Dimitri’s first friend in America. With Dimitri’s paranoid
demeanor of the diner, Lloyd was the only one he fully
trusted enough to work with him. Lloyd sees Nick as if he
was his own. After having a cold welcoming after his
return from the World War II, he finds comfort in talking
and spending time with Nick. Nick’s combined
innocence and heart of gold give Lloyd a sense of peace
that someone sees him as he is on the inside, rather than
just the outside.
Cookie
A vile, ruthless mobster. A young Capo in his 20’s, comes
from a long line of notable gangsters. Desperate to
separate from being just a name and make a real
reputation for himself, he will go to any lengths to get
what he wants or needs. He runs the drug shipping and
gambling rings through City Hall Diner. He is cunning
and will use any sinister tactics necessary to manipulate
and control.

Nick watched as the city burned around him. Many characters frequented the diner, including members of the
mob which was operating a gambling ring in the diner. This series explores the many unfortunate and dramatic
events that become witnessed by Nick. No matter the race, gender, or cultural background, with current events
these experiences are things that children all over the country are still experiencing today. This is a viewpoint that
most of us tend to overlook. What we do today, children will feel the consequences tomorrow. This series will tell
the story of one of those children.
