Assignment 1 -

The staff of a service centre for electrical appliances includes three

technicians who specialize in repairing three widely used electrical
appliances by three different manufacturers. It was desired to study the
effects of Technician and Manufacturer on the service time. Each
technician was randomly assigned five repair jobs on each
manufacturer's appliance and the time to complete each job (in minutes)
was recorded. The data for this particular experiment is thus attached.
Questions: 1) State the Null and Alternate Hypothesis for conducting
one-way ANOVA for both the variables ‘Manufacturer’ and ‘Technician
individually. –

Q.no.1 (ANS): There is no significant difference between both the variables

‘Manufacturer’ and ‘Technician’.

: µ1=µ2 (Null hypothesis)

There is some significant difference between both the variables
‘Manufacturer’ and ‘Technician’

: µ1 µ2 (Alternate hypothesis)
2) Perform one-way ANOVA for variable ‘Manufacturer’ with respect to the
variable ‘Service Time’. State whether the Null Hypothesis is accepted or rejected
based on the ANOVA results. –

Explain with arguments.

Sum of Squares df Mean Square F Sig.

Between Groups .711 2 .356 .168 .846

Within Groups 88.933 42 2.117
Total 89.644 44

This is the table that shows the output of the ANOVA analysis
and whether there no statistically significance difference
between our groups means.
We can see that the significance value is 0.846 (i.e.., p=0.846)
This is greater then 0.05. And, therefore, there is no any
significance difference between our both variables.
3) Perform one-way ANOVA for variable ‘Technician’ with respect to
the variable ‘Service Time’. State whether the Null Hypothesis is
accepted or rejected based on the ANOVA results

Explain with arguments.

Sum of Squares df Mean Square F Sig.

Between Groups .225 4 .056 .076 .989

Within Groups 29.775 40 .744
Total 30.000 44

This is the table that shows the output of the ANOVA analysis
and whether there no statistically significance difference
between our groups means.
We can see that the significance value is 0.989 (i.e.., p=0.989)
This is greater then 0.05. And, therefore, there is no any
significance difference between our both variables, Technician
and service time.
4) Analyze the effects of one variable on another with the help of an
interaction plot. What is an interaction between two treatments?

To understand potential interaction effects, compare the lines from

the interaction plot:
1. If the lines are parallel, there is no interaction.
2. If the lines are not parallel, there is an interaction.

Hence there is no any interaction affect between these two variables.

5) Perform a two-way ANOVA based on the variables ‘Manufacturer’ &
‘Technician’ with respect to the variable ‘Service Time’ and state your
results.

Explain with report.

Levine’s Test of Equality of Error Variances

Tests the null hypothesis that the error variance of the

dependent variable is equal across groups.
a. Design: Intercept + Service. Time

Result,
About two way analysis of variance, we see the ANOVA table and
consider a significance value. If the significance value is less than 0.05
then we can say that out hypothesis is reject according to out (p) value.
But, if (p) value or significance value greater then 0.05, then we can say
that our statistical hypothesis is accepted due to (p) value .
Hence we accept out null hypothesis . it means that there is no significance difference between
our both variable , because our (p) value is greater than 0.05.
