us. Their guidance and benevolence has been instrumental in the growth and

Convocation

The First Convocation of Uka Tarsadia University was held on 22 February, 2014 for the batches of 2011 with
enthusiasm and gaiety. Distinguished academician honorable Dr. B.A. Prajapati, former Vice-Chancellor of Veer
Narmad South Gujarat University, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Convocation was graced by honorable
Shri Shaileshbhai Patel, the President of Uka Tarsadia University, Dr. D.R. Shah the Provost of the University, Shri
Kiritbhai Patel, the Vice President of the University, Shri Dilipbhai Bhakta the Chairman, Bardoli Pradesh Kelvani
Mandal (BPKM), Shri Bhagubhai Patel, the President BPKM, Deans of various faculties, dignitaries and parents. Six
gold medals and 264 post graduate degrees were awarded in the convocation which included M.Sc. (Biotechnology)-
71, M.Sc. (Microbiology)- 17, M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry)- 15, M.Sc. (Pharmaceutical Chemistry)- 8, M.Sc. (Computer
Application)- 16, MBA- 77, M.Pharm. (Pharmaceutical Analysis)- 14, M.Pharm (Pharmaceutics)- 17, M.Pharm
(Pharmacology)- 13 and M.Pharm (Quality Assurance)- 16. The Provost of the University Dr. D.R. Shah delivered
welcome address, presented the report and highlighted the achievements.

Dignitaries on the dais during our first convocation

Shri Shaileshbhai Patel in his address congratulated the graduates and said that they would now face the realities of
life which were not be governed by any curriculum or syllabus but comprise only electives, careful selection of which
determine their journey of life and future success. In the convocation speech honorable Chief Guest Dr. B.A. Prajapati
congratulated the graduates and said that innovation is the key to survival and responding to the change is the biggest
challenge today. He asked the graduates to cultivate the right attitude to make progress in the globalized, integrated
world. The University oath was administered by Dr. Poonam Mittal, Dean Faculty of Commerce and Management.
Formal opening and closing of the convocation was done by Shri Shaileshbhai Patel at the request of the Registrar Dr.
Renu Chauhan. The ceremony concluded with National Anthem.

Workshops and Seminars
Shrimad Rajchandra Institute of Management and
Computer Application (SRIMCA) organized 4 days “DB2-
9 Fundamentals (302A) Certification Workshop” from
24th to 27th August, 2013. The objective of the workshop
was to provide an exposure to current trends in IT
Industry, through IBM Academic Initiative. As part of
IBM Academic Initiative, total 96 Students and 8 faculty
benefited through this training programme. During four
days, participants got detailed knowledge of IBM's
flagship Relational Database Product DB2.

SRIMCA organized 4 days, “IBM Rational Team Concert V3.0 Certification Workshop” from 24 to 27 August, 2013.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Vinod Patidar and Mr.Yogesh Sharma. Total 75 students and 9 faculty members
attended this certification workshop.

Keeping pace with the industry demands and social responsibility towards software community and society at large,
a seminar was organized on two days - 22nd and 26th August, 2013 respectively on “Open Source Web Application

Development Framework Codeignitor” by SRIMCA. On 22 August, 2013. 450 students from computer science

colleges of Valsad, Vapi, Umrakh, Vyara and Bilimora and on 26 August, 2013, 425 students from computer science
colleges of Pandesara, Navsari, Amroli, Udhna and Bharthana participated. Along with them students of CGPIT, UTU
also attended the seminar.

A seminar on “Introduction to Software Testing and its


significance in IT Industry” was organized by SRIMCA on
Friday 16th August, 2013. More than 250 students from
SRIMCA attended this seminar. The main objective of
the seminar was to make students aware about one of
the course and its consequent benefits in IT Industry.

On 31st July, 2013 SRIMCA organized a seminar on
“Practical aspect of Cyber Security” with the conception
of peers learning with motive of “for the student by the
student” at SRIMCA Hall. More than 150 students
participated in this seminar from Third Year MCA.
Objective of this seminar is to make students aware
about the practical aspect of Cyber Security by
demonstrating different tools, techniques and
websites.
A one day seminar on "Knowledge Management"
sponsored by AICTE was organized by SRIMCA on 5th
June, 2013. More than 200 students participated in the
seminar from different colleges.

A Workshop on "The Fundamental and Technical


Analysis" was organized by the Department of
Management, SRIMCA on 10th August, 2013. The key
note speaker of the seminar was Dr. V. Aditya Srinivas
[COO BSE, MDP (IIM-A)].

A Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Global


financial crisis and its impact on Indian Economy” was
organized by Department of Management, SRIMCA on
7th April, 2014. The resource person was Dr. V. Aditya
Srinivas.

Entrepreneurship Development Cell, Department of


Management, SRIMCA organized a workshop on “Option
Trading Strategies by using Software on 19th March,
2014. The resource person was Mr. Govind Jhawar.

C.G. Bhakta Institute of Biotechnology (CGBIB), under the


auspices of Maliba Research Centre for Excellence in
Tissue Culture, organized a 3 days workshop in Plant
Tissue Culture from 12th May to 14th May, 2014. The
attendees were science teachers from higher secondary
schools, biotechnology students, research scholars and
teachers from Nigeria carrying out research in India. The
objective of the workshop was to transfer scientific
knowledge and develop entrepreneurial skills in plant
tissue culture industry.

Dr. Jeetendra Adhiya's life changing seminar on “Mind

Power” was organized on 14 March, 2014 in Uka
Tarsadia University.
One day workshop on “Women Empowerment” sponsored by
GUJCOST was held at C.G. Patel Institute of Technology (CGPIT) on
26th November, 2013 with an aim to give the girls necessary
information to make decisions for a positive, healthy, successful and
respectful life. Chief guest Mrs. Darshana Jardosh, MP, Surat shared
experience of her journey to politics and gave inputs for joining
politics. She emphasized how a young woman with a mind full of
knowledge and a deep self-respect is better equipped to speak her
mind clearly, step out of her comfort zone, set clear boundaries and
be a part of healthy relationships. Another two sessions were
conducted by Ms. Jyoti Kumari and Mr. C.P. Joshi, scientific officers at
Kakrapar Atomic Power Station, who made audience aware of the scientific areas where too, women are spreading
their bounds and availing opportunities.

Sci-clone'14:
A national level technical symposium under the name of “Sci-Clone'14” was organized at CGPIT on 4-5th March, 2014
under the guidance of honorable Director Dr. N.C. Shah. The festival consisted of 39 Technical and Non-Technical
events related to the different fields of engineering. Around 1700 participants took part in the event across the state
and country. The event was organized by around 100 student co-coordinators and volunteers forming a three tiered
structure in nature. The main aim of the event was to bring the students from different engineering institute under
one roof and identifying one's potential in terms of technicality and team work.

FDP for BVPIBMCIT:


A very special program on “Voice Modulation and
Speech Therapy” was organized for the faculty members
of B.V. Patel Institute of Business Management,
Computer & Information Technology (BVPIBMCIT).
Entire training was completed in 25 sessions. The
resource person was Ms. Rozy Patel.
Workshop on SPSS:
Two days national workshop on "Computation of Statistical Analysis using SPSS for Pharmaceutical Research" was
organized by Maliba Pharmacy College (MPC) on 6th and 7th March, 2014 at IBM Centre of Excellence Laboratory. Forty
delegates from different fields of health care system medical, pharmacy, nursing and biotechnology participated in
the workshop. Dr. Akash Acharya, Associate Professor, Centre for Social Study, Veer Narmad South Gujarat
University, Surat was the chief guest for the workshop. He also delivered a lecture on the topic "SPSS: Getting
Started". The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Bhavin Vyas, Dr. Paras Patel and Dr. Shrikant Joshi.

25 days FDP on Voice Exuberance:


An FDP on voice modulation & exuberance was held from 17th February, 2014 to 3rd April, 2014, at MPC for its faculty
members. The main objective of the FDP was to train faculty on acoustic analysis of voice and sound signals so as to
make teaching learning process more effective. This workshop had lots of sessions, live as well as recorded, in
English, Gujarati and Hindi languages which were based on diction, pronunciation, communication skill, voice
exercises and techniques of voice projection along with regular tips from expert and feedback from participants. This
workshop was conducted by Ms. Rozy Patel, writer, trainer and orator working with All India Radio. This FDP was
coordinated by Dr. Ashish Mishra.

Workshop on "13C-NMR and Mass Spectral Techniques" was organized by Department of


Chemistry, UTU for the students of M.Sc. (Organic & Pharmaceutical Chemistry) and M.

Pharm. on 20 - 21 September, 2013. The objective of the workshop was to provide the
knowledge on some of the important techniques from Analytical Chemistry.
Dr. D.I. Brahmbhatt (Department of Chemistry, S.P. University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Anand)
was the resource person for this workshop and delivered informative sessions.

Department of Chemistry, UTU organized a workshop on “Organic Spectroscopy &


Stereochemistry” for M.Sc. (Organic / Pharmaceutical) Chemistry and M.Pharm. Students
on 24th to 26th September, 2013. Dr. P.S. Kalsi, former Dean of Colleges, Punjab Technical
University, Jalandhar & Emeritus Professor, Dept. of Chemistry, Punjab Agricultural

University, conducted day-long session for all three days on topics such as H-NMR
spectroscopy, Stereochemistry and Retro synthesis.
Guest lectures and Visits
SRIMCA organized an expert talk by Dr. Atul Patel, Professor and Dean, CMPICA, Charusat, Changa on "Cloud
Computing Security issues and Basics" for 4th semester MCA students. He covered concept of different services,
models in cloud, characteristics, opportunities and challenges with pros and cons of Cloud computing and 5 key cloud
security issues.

An expert talk by Dr. R.D. Morena, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, Veer Narmad South
Gujarat University, Surat on "Advance Object Oriented Programming" was organized by SRIMCA for MCA 2ndsemester
students. A doubt solving session for students was conducted by Dr. Morena for thorough understanding of practical
applications of these concepts.

Mr. Amit Mehta (CEO, Makzy) delivered atalk on Dr. Ona O.Soleye, Ex. Finance Minister of Nigeria visited
availability of e-resources to FY MBA and MAM Uka Tarsadia University, Maliba campus between 3rd and
students of Department of management, 6th February, 2014. During his visit he had discussions with
SRIMCA, on 3rd March, 2014. directors, faculty members and students. He was very
much impressed with all the facilities and architectural

Dr. Azeez Musibau Adewuyi, Department of Pure and Applied Biology, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology,
Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria visited C.G. Bhakta Institute of Biotechnology as a representative of Prof. A.S.
Gbadegesin, Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology for three days. Dr. Azeez studied the
possibility of having long-term research collaboration and Student-Teacher Exchange program between LAUTech
and UTU.
Four scientists Shri R.P. Dubey, Shri K.L N. Sastry, Shri N.S.
Mehta and Dr. G.Sandhya Kiran from Indian Society of
Geomatics, Ahemdabad and Baroda Chapter delivered
talks on different aspects of remote sensing.

A One day seminar on “Preparation of NET-SLET


Examination” was organized by the Department of
Chemistry for PG students and faculty. Dr. G.S.
Rashinkar, Professor of Chemistry who passed NET-SLET
for 20 times, served as the resource person.
Shri Govindbhai Dholakia Founder and Chairman, Shree
Ram Krishna Exports Private Ltd., Surat and a well-
known diamond industrialist delivered a motivational

talk on 3 May, 2014 for UTU faculty members at Dr. Jatin
Desai Hall. He talked about the struggle and success in
life, quoting examples from his own experiences in life.
More than 260 faculty members along with Dr. D. R.
Shah, Provost, UTU and Shri Kiritbhai Patel, the Vice
President of the University, BPKM attended the lecture.

Dr. K.N. Bhatt, Professor, Government Medical College,


Surat and Dr. Saral Bhatia, Associate Professor,
Government Medical College, Surat conducted an
expert session on 'Cervical cancer and HPV vaccination'

on 18 April, 2014 at Dr. Jatin Desai Hall. They
emphasized on fatality due to cervical cancer and its
prevention by Human Pappiloma Virus vaccination.
More than 400 female students and faculty members of
UTU attended the lecture.
Dr. R.G. Kothari, Professor of Education, M.S. University
Vadodara conducted an expert session on 'Teaching
methodology and assessment parameters' on 27th
March, 2014 for UTU faculty members at Shrimad Hall.
Around 200 faculty members along with Dr. D.R. Shah,
Provost, UTU attended the lecture.
Mr. Prashant Desai, Production Manager, S Kant
Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Vapi delivered a lecture on 'Good
Manufacturing Practices and its applications in

pharmaceutical industry' on 14 March, 2014 to M.
Pharm. and final year B. Pharm. students. The lecture
was held at Dr. Jatin Desai Hall and around 200 students
and 12 faculty members attended it.
Dr. B.N. Suhagia, Dean, Department of Pharmacy, DDU,
Nadiad delivered a talk on “Career opportunities after
M.Pharm.” on 27th March, 2014 to M.Pharm. students.
The talk was held at lecture hall, Maliba Pharmacy
College and around 120 students and 8 faculty members
along with Dr. S.A. Shah, Principal, Maliba Pharmacy
College attended it.
Extra and Co-curricular activities
The Great Mind Challenge :
It is a contest organized by IBM every year; projects are i nv i t e d
from students across the country that can develop s o l u t i o n s
for real-time problems and scenarios. 180 s t u d e n t s f r o m
Faculty of Computer Science and Technology participated in
TGMC event on 31st March, 2014 and worked on the projects
listed by the TGMC group. They successfully completed and
submitted the project work carried out by them using 'Mobile
Applications' to IBM. Some of the project definitions were
“Customer Mobile Apps for Retail Receipt Manager ”,
“Employee Information stem”, “Online Chat Application”,
“Student Management System”, “Tour and Travel India” etc. To
prepare students for participation in TGMC the faculty of SRIMCA organized full day workshop on "Mobile
Application Development" exclusively for MCA 2nd and 4th Semester students.

Utsav 2014 :
The annual day celebration and farewell for the

Superintendent of Police for Surat district gave
his venerated presence as an honorable chief
guest for the event and inaugurated the formal
function. He gave a squat talk to motivate the youth to
indulge themselves in the civil services as it is believed that the youth can change the society in the best of manner
than what it is today and provided guidance to last year students how they can get into the civil services. Various
dignitaries were present namely Dr. D. R. Shah Vice Chancellor UTU, Shri Kiritbhai Patel, the Vice President of the
University, BPKM and Shri Arvindbhai Patel, Joint Secretary BPKM. Dr. D. R. Shah shared words of wisdom and
motivated the students. The event was concluded by giving farewell to the last year students. Mehndi, Nail Art & Aarti
Decoration competition was organized on Thursday, 12th September, 2013 where in around 70 students
participated.
Sparsh - 2014 :

On 29 March, 2014, Department of Management, SRIMCA organized Annual Day & Farewell Function. The Annual
Day consisted of prize distribution ceremony, ethnic events and farewell for final year MBA students. The chief guest
of event was Mr. Dharmesh Parmar (Deputy Commissioner of Industries and General Manager of District Industries
Centre, Vyara), the guests of honor were Mr. Bhagubhai Patel (President, BPKM), Dr. Dinesh Shah (Provost, UTU), and
Mr. Kiritbhai Patel (Vice President of the University),Mr. Arvindbhai Patel (Joint-Secretary, BPKM). Mr. Dharmesh
Parmar, has encouraged students to be entrepreneurs, Dr. Prashant Joshi, the director, reported activities that
Department of Management has carried out in the year 2013-14. Award for best student of the Year 2013-2014 was
won by Ms. Ekta Patel from SY MBA. In this event, Department of Management distributed, 32 academic awards, 140
sports awards, 150 ethnic events awards and 110 external events awards.
Department of Management, SRIMCA organized “Patriotic Day Celebration” on 16th August, 2013 which included
Board Decoration and Elocution Competitions.
Mehndi and Nail Art Competitions were organized at Department of Management on 27th July, 2013.
Anantyam:
One day technical event Anantyam '13 – “Excellence in work
towards Infinity” was held on the "Engineers day - 15th September,
2013. The event was conceptualized with an aim to motivate the
youth of CGPIT to think out of the box, expand their horizons and
reach the zenith of success in all techno-management spheres. It
has stayed true to its vision since, and from its humble beginning,
Anantyam revealed in being one of the premier techno-
management festivals of UTU. With a reach of hundreds of college
students from each department, Anantyam has played a phenomenal role in bringing out the true potential of
CGPIT's best and promoting technological and social betterment.

Goonj (2013-2014) :
Every cultural event has many aspects in the life of every
individual and particularly for Student; it is more important
event during student life. By participating in the event, student
can get self-confidence and improve himself/herself to face the
upcoming challenges throughout the life. Looking to the
ongoing competition in the field of every corner, a cultural event
“Goonj 2013-14” was organized at CGPIT, on 5th& 6th March,
2014.

Orientation Program :

BVPIBMICT organized an orientation program from 5 to 8 July, 2013 for the new entrance of BBA and B.Com. The
objective was to familiarize the new comers with the system of business, management and their all-round
development. It included the activities like - Know your Institute, Management Games, Movie Based Workshop,
Personality Development Session, Visit to Shrimad Rajchandra Museum, Antaxari and Orchestra.

Welcome Function-2013 :
Members of cultural club of BVPIBMCIT organized a welcome function on 22nd September, 2013 for FY BBA and FY
B.Com. students. Senior students welcomed their juniors' with gifts and warm welcome speeches and entertained
them with games, singing, dancing and fun act. After lunch everybody danced on the beats of DJ.

Independence Day :
Inter class patriotic song and dance competition was
organized by BVPIBMICT on 14th August, 2013 on the
occasion of 67th Independence Day of India. 13 entries
for participation were received. Students showed their
musical skills while singing various songs. Girls from FY
BBA used taekwondo martial art technique and gave
spectacular dance performance on Vande Mataram.

Teacher's Day celebration :


On the occasion of Teacher's Day students of BBA and

B.Com at BVPIBMICT organized a program on 5
September, 2013. The students expressed gratitude
towards their teachers by presenting them with flowers
and mementos. Faculty's participation in passing the
parcel game was enjoyed by the teachers and the
students. The program ended with recitation of prayer
by all.

Annual function of BVPIBMICT :

Annual function of BVPIBMICT was held on 3 and 4
March, 2014 with great pomp and show. The students
were awarded for the basics scholastic performances,
co-curricular and extra-curricular activities during their
study at the college. The awards were given by ShriKirit
Patel, Vice President UTU, Dr. D.R. Shah, Provost UTU
University and the Directors from other departments for
the categories of Year Rankers, Semester Rankers,
Sports Events, etc.
Pranjal-2014 :
The annual function of MPC, Pranjal 2014 was held
during 8-9th March, 2014. Dr. Dinesh R. Shah, Provost
UTU and Shri. Kiritbhai Patel, Vice President of the
University were the chief guests of the function. The
function witnessed the extravaganza of music, dance
and drama. More than 120 students participated in
various cultural events on both days. Annual prize
distribution ceremony was conducted on 8th March,
2014 in which prizes were given to academic toppers as
well as winners of various competitions held during the
year. The second day of the annual function included a
Farewell function for outgoing students.

A photography competition with a theme 'Campus Life'
was held for UTU students in February, 2014. Gohil
Khyati and Desai Krishna of CGBIBT collectively won the
first prize while Prajapati Gaurav of SRIMCA won the
second prize.

Republic Day on 26 January, 2014 was celebrated with
exhilaration and gusto at UTU. Shri Bhagubhai Patel,
BPKM was the chief guest. Dr. Dinesh R. Shah, Provost

Shrimad Rajchandra College of Physiotherapy (SRCP) on

Department of Management SRIMCA organized sports day from 24th February to 26th February, 2014. Management
students participated in various indoor & outdoor games like Cricket, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Badminton, Chess, Carom,

Skylark 2014 :
MPC organized a sports festival, Skylark, during 3-5th
March, 2014. More than 250 students participated in
various games. The festival included indoor games like
badminton, table tennis, chess and carom and outdoor
team games like cricket, volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi and
tug of war. Eighth semester B.Pharm. won 'The class of the
tournament' trophy. The winners of the games were
awarded certificates and trophies during the annual

Fellowship / Scholarship Schemes: Research and Development form a major part of the
goals envisioned by UTU. To give an impetus to this activity, UTU has announced
fellowship schemes through generous support from Shri B.U.Patel. These include
1. Shri B.U. Patel Research Associate-ship: To provide support to bright young
candidates for pursuing exciting and innovative research and doctoral degree in the
field of Technical Education.
2. Research Promotion Scheme: To carry out projects in the constituent institutes of
UTU by promoting research in engineering, applied sciences, pharmacy,
management, computer science and innovations in established and newer
technologies.
3. Shri B.U. Patel Scholarship: To attract highly qualified and motivated economically
backward candidates and provide financial support to them to pursue higher study.
