2. Legal technology companies in Indonesia

 Kontrak Hukum provides three services namely contract making, business entity and
intellectual property registration.1
 Justika offers services in the form of legal consultations (face-to-face / by telephone),
making and reviewing legal documents, and providing legal assistance.

The innovations developed by these companies have brought positive progress into the legal
field in Indonesia in the form of new career prospects (as marketplace for lawyers). It can
also improve the quality and competitiveness of lawyer / law firms in providing legal service,
as well facilitate and ease the work of lawyers if implemented properly. 2 Until now, these
technology companies have not significantly disrupted Indonesian legal field. (119 words)

3. Legal technology companies in other countries

 Rocket Lawyer offers a variety of online legal services such as creating custom legal
documents, forms and contract by inputting data obtained from questions and answers

 with the client (Document Automation), reviewing legal documents and contracts,
business entity registration, and phone legal consultation.3
The presence of Rocket Lawyer surely can disrupt legal industry in Indonesia or in their
own country of origin as its technology is sophisticated enough to automate simple tasks
and complete more complex legal work. So far, the Document Automation business
model has been developed by legal technology companies in Indonesia e.g. Kontrak
Hukum and Justika, however to date, they have not significantly disrupted the Indonesian
legal industry.
 Quimbee provides courses for law students in the form of lessons videos and practice
questions with topic related to law (Legal Education).4
Quimbee will not disrupt the legal industry in Indonesia, because they focus on providing
education for law students and preparing them to become law enforcers not to replace the
work of lawyers with technology.
 Kleros is an open-source online dispute resolution protocol which uses blockchain and
crowdsourcing to fairly adjudicate disputes.5 I think this type of business model cannot be
applied in Indonesia or certain countries because there are differences in the legal
systems of each country and the socio-cultural perspective of the people. (247 words)

4. Unicorn and decacorn in Indonesia

 Tokopedia is a startup with the C2C (consumer to consumer) online marketplace business
model. Tokopedia offers diverse products ranging from financial technology products
consisting of e-wallets, mutual fund investments, business capital loans, and other kind of
financial services.6
 OVO provides services mostly related to electronic transactions (e-commerce) such as
OVO points, merchants, OVO invest, and so on.7

 Snowflake Computing is a Data Management & Analytics Company that provides a

cloud data warehouse for any data across any cloud. 8 We think the company has the
opportunity to offer legal product, it can help legal lawyers to manage e-discovery,
analyze connections within data, and create reports to share findings.
 Darktrace is a provider that can manage the risk of cyber-attacks, which allows
companies to protect their information and intellectual property. 9 It has the opportunity to
offer a legal product namely online legal practice, from helping the client meet the right
lawyer to consult, assessing network / data security and regulatory compliance to
preventing and responding to cyber-attacks and data breaches. (130 words)

6. Law firm in Indonesia

UMBRA law firm in conducting its due diligence adopts the technology of Legal Inference
Transformation Engine (LITE) provided by Luminance AI.10 This legal technology product is
used by UMBRA to improve the quality and performance of their legal services to be faster
and more efficient as it can automatically perform tasks such as grouping, comparing,
reviewing, and filtering documents that provided/needed by clients. (61 words)

If I am a managing partner at a large law firm, I will fund and partner with incubators or
other parties to undertake innovative initiatives, along with my team of lawyers build our
own legal technology products, or use smart products offered by trusted legal technology
companies to pursue new ideas and competitive advantage for my law firm. I believe that
using legal technology can enhance the firm's overall reputation and build an image of law
firm with nimble and effective working environment. (83 words)

8.2 If you are a managing partner in a small law firm.

If I am a managing partner at a small law firm, I will encourage my team of lawyers to keep
up with technology so they will not lag with technological advancements and ensuring that
my lawyers have good emotional intelligence skills. If my small law firm's budgeting is
stable and its operation goes well, I will acquire legal technology products to level up the
playing field, compete with larger firms in the field, and improve our legal service quality

If I am a legal director at a large company, I will suggest that our company should create or
use legal technology tools offered by other companies that minimize the number of manuals

If I am a legal manager in a small company, I will not rush to invest in legal technology
products on the grounds that job descriptions such as providing legal advice, researching
legislative issues, drafting and reviewing contracts or other documents could still be
conducted by legal managers, legal staffs or law firm partners, given the conditions that
legal problems experienced by small companies are usually not too complicated and still in

8.5. If you are the founder of a technology company in the legal field.

I realize that there is a great opportunity to establish a legal technology company in

Indonesia. If I am the founder of a legal technology company, I will create legal technology
that can be used by lawyers to store, index and search various documents, customized legal
documents according to their needs (drafting contract and automate contract reviews), due
diligence and regulatory work. This legal service can also be used by business actors,
individuals and the wider community. As client, they can find a suitable lawyer that matches
their problem and consult via chat or phone call with this software intermediary. (99 words)
