Do you know that the machine reaper does the work of three men. The machine reaper

was made for harvesting crops faster, so that the farms do not have to do the old

method like using a sickle. The machine reaper was made by Cyrus Mccormick and

tested successfully in 1834. Cyrus Took over his father’s project and turned into

success. The machine reaper was made to hitch on horses and the horse would drag

the machine on the crops so that the crop would be cut.

My inventer is Cyrus Mccormick, his full name in Cyrus Hall Mccormick. Cyrus was

born february 15, 1809 in rockbridge county, virginia and died May 13, 1884 in chicago.

The oldest son Cyrus Mccormick had invented several farm implements but, like the

other inventions in England had failed. Cyrus took over his father’s project and within six

weeks Cyrus had built a field-tested reaping machine. Cyrus invented the machine

reaper in 1831. Cyrus claimed that his reaper invention was actually invented in 1834.

That was giving Cyrus the true claim to the general design of the machine. Cyrus

modeled and successfully demonstrated the world’s first mechanical reaper. Cyrus

invented his machine reaper in rockbridge county, virginia.

This machine was used by farmers to harvest crops mechanically. For hundreds of

years, farmers and field workers had to harvest crops by hand using a sickle or other

methods, which was an arduous task at best. The Mccormick's mechanical reaper

replaced the manual cutting of the crop with scythes and sickles. This new invention

allowed wheat to be harvested quicker and with less labor force. This invention made it

so the farmers did not have to do it by hand they can do it another way. Like hitching it

to a horse and go.

The impact that the machine reaper had was it could do the work of three men. Cyrus

invention revolutionized farming by combining many steps involved in harvesting crops

into one machine. Cyrus reaper could cut more wheat in a day than a half-dozen

farmhands. The machine’s speed increases crops yields, and decreases the number of

farmhands needed, and helped turn the midwest into the nation’s breadbasket region.

Because the farmers were able to harvest wheat so quickly, they began to plant more of

it. Growing wheat in the midwest region became profitable. Cyrus’s reaper machine

ensured that raising wheat would remain the main economic activity in the midwest.
