DYCI’s 70th FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY: FAIR AND ADJUST

Every year must be celebrated because it means that the institution was growing. As a
way of celebrating, DYCI preferred to have a festival competition as the highlight of the
foundation week. For the past years, the nine (9) colleges must present different kinds of
festival, but this year was an exception, because all the participants must perform the Pagoda
Festival. There are many contests and sports that will be held during the week. At our college,
the pressure was really there because last year we got the Golden DYCIAn Award, which
means we are the overall champion.

The preparation for this founding anniversary was a bit messy, because all the leaders of
the institution don’t have the same thoughts and opinions on how to celebrate it. Therefore, the
rehearsals of the participants for the programs and competitions lacked in time to prepare
everything. We, the College of Accountancy, being one to the least numbers of student, had a
hard time to finish all the props, had a hard time to search for our representatives, had a hard
time to persuade all the students to help one another. When the week started, all are excited
and nervous at the same time. All the colleges wants to have an award or to be on top of every
contest. As an accountancy student, we are expecting that we must be on the top 3, because
for the past years, we’re always there, we’re consistent on setting the bar high. However fate
didn’t embrace us, yes we accept defeat, yes we are sports, and yes there are really ups and
downs, but we can really accept not being on top if and only if the winners are really deserving
to be called winners. Almost all the student of DYCI consoled us and said that “Ang galing
ninyo. Para samin kayo dapat nanalo.” This line made us cry not only because someone was
proud to our performance but also in sadness because we saw how all the participants and
coaches really worked hard for it.

There’s this one college who brings home the bacon. Yes, they also deserve to be on
top, but not at all the competitions. Therefore, in my opinion, the foundation week is fair to their
eyes and adjusted to us. We perceived that somehow, it is bias and a bit unfair because we all
saw who should be the winners in the respective categories. But, then again, we don’t have
enough proof that it is a mere cooking show. Our minds are still bothered, is it all planned? Is it
a way to show-off? Is it really scripted? Do some of the judges don’t know how to judge a dance
contest? There’s so many questions running through, but as an accountancy student, we must
learn how to adjust always. We’re happy that we fight as one, fair and square, and that’s what
WINNING is all about.
