SUMMARY OF GLOBALIZATION (GROUP 1)

As a group, we have learned that the exchange of goods, transportation, technology and

communication are part of globalization. We, people being connected to foreign countries in terms of

trading, health, safety and anything with relation to economy are all part of globalization. It aims to

expand business operations on a worldwide level, it was precipitated by the facilitation of global

communications due to technological advancements, and socioeconomic, political and environmental

developments. To further understand this topic, we have come up to idea of what is the root of the

globalization, according to what we have researched the culture of each countries make them unique

and have the capacity to interconnect representing their works in the economy. The culture of each

country connects to the three (3) perspectives of globalization which are Differentialism,

Hybridization, and Convergence.

Differentialism is rooted in the idea of lasting differences among and between cultures. For

instance, 9/11 (Western and Islamic culture), multi-culturalism that US (largely the growth of the

Hispanic population) and Western European countries(the growing Muslim populations).

Furthermore, Hybridization perspective emphasizes differences resulting from the interaction of the

global and the local. As an example, a Filipino teenager watching K Pop performed by an American

Band at a French Club. In addition, Convergence is the merge or coming together based on the idea

that globalization tends to lead to increasing sameness throughout the world. For example, Sari-

making, India a local cultural product (the silk sari), practice (making such saris by hand), and

practitioners (skilled sari makers) are being threatened by mass – manufactured saris made by

machine and by less skilled workers.

We can say that the economy is affected of what is happening globally, we collected our

opinions on whether the economy is heterogenous or homogenous. Based on our understanding

heterogenous defines as different or change, which pertains to the advantages of the globalization

which are the advances in the technology, health and transportation because of this we have grown in

the trading section of the economy. Also, in terms of competitiveness, efficiency, and security we
have come far .While homogenous means the same which we have related to disadvantages of

globalization such as interdependence, competition between countries is supposed to drive prices

down but it is not happening, and working abroad can cause problems with the existing labor and

downward pressure on wages. Somehow, we haven’t reach yet the highest peek of development

because of our own perspectives and wrong doings, we should have one major goal which is the

growth of each one of us.
