Tensions ‘These garments have boon designed for 4-ply. In erdr to match the sios shown inthis book itis essenal to produce the correct tension. The correct stacking stitch tension 29 stitches to 10 om 42 rows to 10 em Forall Singer machines we suggest Tension 7.1. However, at each machine varie itis adveabe to check your tonsion. Various colours and fleck can alo aect the tension. To check tension: Krita sample with 60 ttehes on tension one point below suggested tension, ©... 7 — nit 60 rows and mark work —then change to 7.1 and knit 60 rows, then T 7.2 for 60 rows, Remove the sample from the machine and leave for at least 12 hours before measuring, CAUTION These garments have been designed excvsvly for the yrns specie. To decrease place 2nd last stitch onto last then move both back to 2nd needle, push empty needle out of ‘action. Imitation rib—where the given number of needles are selected and every alternate needle Is pushed out of action. When the hhem is completed remember to put the alternate needles back into action. Aibbing: The instructions are forK1, PY orsngle rib using aribbor attachment, or double bed machine. Tensions: For stocking stitch hems the tension is fone number tighter than the normal tension. For imitation rib and KI, PL rib the tension is 2 numbers tighter than the normal tension. Buttonholes ‘The correct placement of buttonholes Is given in all cardigan bands. These may be worked in either 1, PI rip or imitation eo, Ki, PI Ribs 1. For small buttons—transfer the centre Fibber bed stitch onto the above main bee stitchthere are now two stitches on one needle Leave the empty rib needle in action and continue reiting 2. For larger buttons—transfer_the centre ribber bed stitch onto the above main bee stitch, then transfer the next main bel stitch onto ‘net ribber stitch. There will now be on each bed ‘wo stitches on one needle and one empty neele. Leave the empty needles in action and continue kitting. Imitation Rit: The bards in imitation rib are made ouble the width and folded back—therefore on the same row 2 buttonholes are to be made on needles mentioned in the instructions ond when folded are stitched together. To make the buttor- hole—knit 2 stitches together and leave the empty needle in action ‘The figures quoted are for 4-ply 125g balls. Page 21 COMPLETION OF GARMENTS All Styles. 1. Prose all pices lightly with @ damp cloth. 2. Sew up the shoulder eeame ~ If required lave left shoulder open for buttons or 2p closure on round oF ‘oto neck 3. Sew the side and sleove seams. 4 Sew in the sleeves—matching the shoulder seam to centre of sleeve cap and matching side and Nota: The garment Is eased to fit the sieeve. Attaching Neckbands Round Neck Jumper For both imitation rb and rib sw the neckband evenly around the neck with seam ode at loft shoulder — fold in half and stip stitch — if required sew buttons and crochet loops or ow zip on left shoulder. Polo Neck Jumper Imitation Rib: Attach as for round neck jumper. Ribs Sew cost off edge to the neckline ~ see ound ack. V Neck Jumper Imitation Rib: Sew band around neck commencing with ends at the V-with 2 pieces, the second joine {at @ shoulder seam—fold the band in halt and slip sitch—make a mitred comer at the V. Rib: Sew band around neck using the cast off edge commencing at the V-with 2 pieces, the second joins at a shoulder seam—mitre the ends at the V. Round Neck Cardigan Imitation Rib: Attach the neckband evenly, fold in naif and slip stitch. Attach the bands down each front commencing at the top of the neckband—fold in half and slip stitch. Catch the buttonholes together. Ribs attach the neckband evenly around neck using cast off edge—attach bands from top of neck band. V Neck Cardigan Imitation Rib: Attach band evenly around neckline, fold in half and slp stitch, Catch the buttonholes together. Rib: Attach evenly around neckline, Page 22
