My name is Letlhogonolo Dire but I'd prefer if
you refer to me as “Young Mashobane" Because that's what everyone calls me. I was born in Soshanguve (Jukulyn) but grew up in Mabopane (Block B) . My parents moved to Mabopane as soon as I was born because they thought Jukulyn was an unfriendly environment and they didn't want their one & only child to be raised in such an environment Because they feared that I might turn out to be a small time thug with no purpose in life. Unfortunately I turned out exactly as what my parents feared I would turn out to be , A THUG. Mom & Dad did everything in their power to make sure I get a good life. Mom was a maid in Soshanguve (Block VV) and my dad didn't have a stable job but he made things possible so in other words neele lespinara (he was a street hustler) but he never resorted to crime no matter how bad things got , he would rather get on his knees & pray about it than to commit crime. Both Their efforts were enough to get me to a private school. I was not that smart but I was trying & even though I failed twice my parents never gave up on me nor made me feel like a failure , they would encourage me to feel better when I failed and also go all out to get me a tutor. My dream was to make them proud one day. I had dreams but they were all taken away from me. I was 18 years old & in Grade 10 , I remember the day like it was yesterday when my life completely changed. It was a beautiful Sunday morning & it was my father's birthday , I woke up early that day to cook his favourite meal and make his birthday a happy one Because my parent's happiness meant a lot to me. By 9am I was done cooking and I put all the food in the fridge , prepared him a proper breakfast and prepared warm water for him to take a bath after eating breakfast so we could go to church. He was so excited and couldn't even hide it , he ate and prepared for church. He took out his best suit that he wore occasionally , he would wear that suit when he went to important places only and he would wear it like 4 times a year so that showed me how much he was happy that day. My mom had went to work to ask for a day off and told us she'll find us at church so when my dad woke up she was already gone. I also prepared myself to go to church , I took a bath and also wore my best clothes , It all felt like Christmas Day. We finished preparing then took off , church was a few kilometres away so we travelled by foot. On our way to church my dad wouldn't stop thanking me for what I had done for him that morning and I also thanked him for being the best dad ever and he went on to say that he can't wait to taste the food I prepared for him and if it was by him he would skip church that day just to feast on that meal then we laughed about it. Out of nowhere came this black BMW with tinted windows as me and my dad were about to cross the road and we were a few metres away from church. It all happened so fast but I ironically saw everything in slow motion. The car came in such speed as if it was running away from the police and to our surprise it slowed down when it was approaching us and the guy inside rolled down the window as he yelled “Ashii mpyela eng pethileng zaka murr (Here's that bastard that stole my money)” and he was pointing at my father. I turned to my father and you could tell by his facial expression that he was drowning In confusion and didn't know what was happening , he looked at me and I could see fear in his eyes and before he could turn his head again to look at the car nor explain that there is a misunderstanding and that he confuses him with someone else , the guy's other hand left the steering wheel as it reached for the passenger seat and pulled out a gun as the other hand was still keeping balance on the steering wheel. He took out the gun and fired 3 bullets that went straight to my father's head and then he fastened the car with the same speed as it came with. It all looked surreal as I watched my father helplessly fall to the ground , his favourite and best suit was covered in blood , his eyes were wide open and his eye balls were stand still and I knew that I had just lost my father in the most tragic way. I cried my lungs out as I got on my knees , picked him up placed his head on my chest to balance it. My best outfit was also covered in blood but I didn't care. Few minutes later a taxi stopped at the other side of the road near the church's gate then someone got off & the taxi drove off. It was my mom carrying this beautifully decorated cake with my father's name on it hoping to find us in church but as soon as the taxi she was in drove off she could see what was happening on the other side of the road. I could see her beautiful smile turn upside down from a road away as she was looking at the scene. She couldn't believe what she was seeing and as she was approaching the scene she could see clearly what was happening. My father's head was still balanced on my chest with tears rolling down my face. Her walking speed ascended by every step she took , the cake she had slipped fell & to the ground as she ran to us. She didn't even care if the cars on the road hit her , she crossed the road without looking sideways Because her eyes were glued to us and tears started running down her face like an uninvited flood caused by melting glaciers as she got closer to us and she bursted into the loudest cry/wail that made people gather around us like an audience watching a play at the theatre and a few metres away I heard sirens indicating that the police was approaching our scene It was the most sad scene ever in Mabopane. From there I knew my life was gonna change forever. The way things happened so fast & sudden that I couldn't even grasp the face of my father's killer but as the car drove off I managed to see the scar on his left cheek and also managed to see the number plate that I still remember to this day , it was “BJ 43 KW GP". Something inside me broke that day , a part of me died with my father and the only thing I had in my mind was REVENGE! My father was laid to rest with dignity and a large number of people came to pay their last respect even people that didn't know him personally. I was there under this mini tent with distant family members & my mother who couldn't hold her tears back & you could tell by her eyes that she has been crying for way too long , they were swollen. I thought I had made peace with my father's death until they rolled the coffin and it hit me that I am never going to see my father ever again , reality hit me once again and my tears started rolling down as slow as my father's coffin and when my cousin tapped me on my shoulder to give me a tissue to wipe mu tears I turned to him and before I could get to him I was disturbed by this car that was passing , it was a Black BMW with tinted windows that looked exactly like the one that my father's killer was in. It was slowly moving behind other cars cause there's always a convoy at the gravesite road. I slowly got up with my eyes glued to the car , everyone turned to me and the pastor stopped preaching and also shifted his focus on me. Everyone was wondering what was going on with me , I wiped my tears and all that was left in my eyes was rage and anger. I ran to one of the policemen that escorted our family car , grabbed and pull his gun then ran to the black BWM to get my revenge. They tried to stop me & everyone was screaming & yelling trying to warn me to stop but I didn't want to listen to any of them. I got to the car and knocked on the driver's side as I pointed the gun towards it , he slowly rolled down the window and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Few seconds later 2 gunshots were fired , PA ! PA !
