1. Read the following passage carefully: (12)
I. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy were four children, who were sent away from London during
the terrible war. There were air raids and bombings and London was not safe for young
children. They stayed with an old professor in a large rambling house in the countryside.
II.The professor had unkempt grey hair which not only covered his head but also most of his
face. That is what had scared Lucy, the youngest of the four. Edmund was not afraid of the
professor at all; in fact, he found the professor quite funny and could not stop giggling
because Lucy was scared of him. One evening after dinner, the children were sitting and talking
when suddenly they heard a loud sound.
‘What is that noise?’’ exclaimed Lucy .’’ The house was much larger than any other house she
lived before. The long corridor scared her.“Oh Lucy! It’s just a bird.” teased Edmund.
“No it is a bat !” said Peter.
III.The children teased Lucy who was the most cautious of them all. Lucy was so scared that
she decided to ignore them and just go to bed.
“I think we should explore the house. You never know, there might be lovely adventure waiting
for us somewhere in this house,’’ suggested Peter.
Answer the following questions:
