INTERNATIONAL PHYSICAL DISTRIBUTION

1. INTRODUCTION

Among the many variables that a business can control, perhaps the most complex and
difficult is the international physical distribution of goods. The choice of the means of
transport in the domestic market, the loading and dispatch of goods with an
international transport carrier and the subsequent distribution in the target market
are three factors that a company must calculate to deliver the product on time and in
form to the end consumer.

Moreover, there are contractual aspects of the relationship that the seller must
comply with, or at least, moral commitments that are critical to building trust in
international trade.

International logistics respond to a set of physical and operational activities and

services pertaining to the movement of goods that are sold in one country and
shipped and delivered to another so that the buyer can acquire the product in the
location that it chooses.
