MOULD BOX:
 The purpose of a mold box is to contain the liquid rubber (after it is poured over and

around a model) until the liquid turns to a solid. ... If you make molds of flat – two

dimensional models on a regular basis and require a mold box there are a number of

advantages in constructing your own mold box.

 TYPES OF MOULD:

There two types of moulding box ,

1-OPEN mould

In which the liquid metal is simply poured until it fills the open cavity.

Fig. “a” ,shows the open mould

2-Closed mould

The closed mold is provided to permit the molten metal to flow from

outside the mold cavity. The closed mold is more important categories in

production casting operation.

OPERATIONS PERFORMED :

Following operations used during our practical project work ,

1- Cutting:-

we operate cutting opration to cut 7 feet strip of cast iron into 4 strips

of 12 inches and 4 strips of 8 inches.

2- Welding:-

Welding is a fabrication process that joins materials, usually metals or

thermoplastics, by using high heat to melt the parts together and allowing

them to cool causing fusion. Welding is distinct from lower temperature

metal-joining techniques such as brazing and soldering, which do not melt the

base metal.

We weld the 2-strip of 8 inches and 2-strip of 12 inches to-gether to give

shape of rectangular. Similarly we made another box and then we weld the

handles on the two sides of each box.

3- FORGING:- We used forging process to give shape of handle.

4- FINISHING:-We used grider to remove excess metal at the point of joints.

5- PANTING:- After the applying all above mentioned operations we used

painting to prevent moulding box from all external and chemical effect

because cast iron easily attacked by external agent which cause oxidizing

process and iron become rusted.
