AT 4. Reflection Paper: Write your reflection regarding the Story of the Moth and his
mother’s imprisonment. How do you think the story influenced Rizal as a hero? As a
reader, what are your reflections?

The story of the Moth tells us not just a story of an insect whose wings were burned
down and unable to fly again. It is a story of how a person whose ambition is just to serve
justice and truth with fair equity. The little moth did afraid to fly around from the light
despite from the warnings and threats of its parent. Because the moth is trying to
overcome its fear. He is trying to show that he is brave.

Because of the bravery of the Moth, Rizal was inspired by it. He then began
searching for the truth and make it as a light to brighten up the minds of the Filipino people
on the abuse and treatment of the Spanish to them. He continued exposing the
oppression of the Spanish even if his life receives threat. The situation of the mother of
Rizal wherein she was punished by walking 50 kilometers and was not given proper food,
medicine, and warmth place to sleep were also one of the contributions to his anger to
the Spaniards. He became more driven to ask fair treatment and justice to the original
owner of the land.
