Summary

Dracula
Bram Stoker

This book tells the story of Count Dracula, who has his castle in Transylvania.
Jonathan Harker, a lawyer who lives in London, has to travel to Transylvania, to Count
Dracula's castle to check some details of the house that the count bought in a town in
southern England.
When Jonathan is in the castle, strange things happen and he begins to suspect that the
Count is not a normal person, since he only sees him at night and has a power over wolf
behavior. It can be said that Jonathan was Dracula's prisoner for a month, in which, the
strangest thing that happened to him was when he was surrounded by three women who
looked like vampires; they wanted to drink their blood, but the count arrived and drove
them away from him, telling them that they could not do that to his guest and then the
Count vanished like shining dust. Even with Jonathan as a prisoner, Dracula goes to
London.
While Jonathan is a prisoner of the Count, his fiance, Mina Murray, not knowing what
happens to Jonathan, is going to spend the summer with his friend Lucy Westenra on the
Yorkshire coast. Lucy is sleepwalking and one night she goes to the village cemetery,
where Dracula sucks her blood. Mina observes everything and after what happened takes
Lucy home.
One day Jonathan escapes the castle when he goes down the walls, but because of this
he falls into a river that is next to the castle and is dragged by the current, but some nuns
find him and one of them calls Mina to tell him about Jonathan’s situation and she goes for
him.
In another city called Whitby, Lucy is becoming a vampire and while being taken to
London, her symptoms are becoming more severe, so her fiance, Lord Arthur Holmwood
and her friend Quincey Morris, ask Dr. John Seward for help. However, after several
treatments, Lucy dies and her mother also due to a heart attack, so they are buried
together.
Days later, in the town there is talk of a beautiful girl, who sucks the blood of children, so
the doctor thinks that it is Lucy who has become a vampire, so they decide to go to Lucy's
grave to the midnight. When they open the coffin they observe that there is no one and at
that moment Lucy arrived with a child, from whom she was drinking her blood. Then they
decide that they have to kill her, so they stick a stake in her heart, decapitate her and fill
her mouth with garlic. In this way Lucy stops being a vampire and rests in peace.
Then Mina reads the newspaper that Jonathan wrote while he was a prisoner in Dracula's
castle and tells the doctor, so they conclude that Dracula is a vampire and they decide to
kill him, but leave Mina in the asylum where the doctor works to be safe. But while they

look for the count, he enters the asylum and bites Mina and causes her to drink his so they
are bound.

Dracula decides to confront Jonathan and the doctor, however, despite his strength he
cannot defeat them and flees to his castle in Transylvania, but they all go after him. The
Count deviated before arriving at the castle, so Jonathan and the others arrive earlier. That
night, Dracula's vampires appear to the doctor and Mina, trying to get Mina to join them,
but the doctor manages to scare them away.
Finally, Dracula arrives at his castle and the battle begins, which ends when Jonathan cuts
the Count's neck, while someone else crosses his heart and thus Dracula dies, so Mina
recovers his health.
