MS2110 Mechanics and Strength of Materials

- Finish the problems below by yourself

- Everyone must collect the answer sheet in .pdf before Friday 24:00 WIB at

1. The uniform sign has a weight of 2000 lb

and is supported by the pipe AB, which
has an inner radius of 2.75 in. and an
outer radius of 3.00 in. If the face of the
sign is subjected to a uniform wind
pressure of p = 150 lb/ft2, determine the
state of stress at points C and D. Then,
determine the principal stress and
maximum shear stress at points C and D
by Mohr Circle. Show the results on a
differential volume element located at
each of these points. Neglect the
thickness of the sign, and assume that it
is supported along the outside edge of
the pipe.

2. Determine the equations of the elastic

curve using the x1 and x2 coordinates, and
specify the slope at A and the deflection
at C. EI is constant. Use integration
method.

3. When the diver stands at end C of the

diving board, it deflects downward 3.5
in. Determine the weight of the diver.
The board is made of material having
a modulus of elasticity of E = 2(103)
ksi. Use integration method.
