Slide 1:

(Opening statements)
“The origin of the electric motor, and how it has changed everything around us.”

Slide 2:
“The electric motor is an innovation that was created by William Sturgeon in 1832. It
allows for electrical energy to be directly converted into mechanical energy. It does this using
electric flows of energy through wires and uses magnets to convert that into movement. I will
explain this concept further later on. It has allowed us to make moving contraptions without
needing a combustion engine. You also might know this invention from things in your household
such as hair dryers, fans, electric cars, washing machines and many more.”

Slide 3:
“The electric motor is a very recent invention. Since its creation in 1832, and it took over
50 years for the motor to be used commercially in the late 1880’s. This invention helped change
the course of history in a huge way by allowing us to store large amounts of energy in small
areas as well as being able to collect energy from our surroundings. We are then able to take
this energy and convert it into movement. This is extremely helpful in the long run because it
means we no longer require fuel to be burned and immediately have to transfer that energy
elsewhere. We can now have a vast interconnection of power, like the power grid, that we can
use to transport clean energy across the planet as well as store that energy for long periods of
time. This energy can then easily be used to power a fan, washing machine, and all the
electronics that would have never been available in the time before the electric motor.”

Slide 4:
“The average electric motor needs a few elements to function. First, we need to talk a
little about energy and conduction. Energy is a force, but it comes in many forms, such as
electrical, gravitational, chemical, etc. This type motor takes electrical energy and turns it into
mechanical energy, also known as motion. To do this, electrical energy is transported from a
source such as a battery or generator usually through wires. Wires are coords that use
conductive material like copper or gold, except gold is far too expensive to use as wiring, to
transfer electrons from one area to another. Another main part of the electric motor are the
magnets that allow the contraption to function. Most magnets are made of nickel or iron, which
are part of a group of elements called ferromagnetic metals. These elements are a necessary
component of the electric motor, and are made into magnets by sending large electrical currents
through them giving them magnetic fields. There also includes the frame of the motor, but it is
not completely necessary and can be made with such a wide array of materials that I’m not
going to go over it.

Slide 5:
“To tell you where these elements came from, I’d like to go way back to the time these
elements were first created. I’m talking about the Second Threshold of increasing complexity,
the creation of Stars. These stars set a path for a vast range of elements to be born. When the
Universe started, it was mainly populated by gaseous elements like hydrogen and helium, which
over time collected to create stars. These vast spheres of gas are a constant explosion which
can cause new elements like iron to be born. As the star continues to go through its life cycle,
new elements are constantly being introduced into the vacuum of space. We are mainly looking
at copper and iron, as they are the main elements needed to harness the power of the law of
magnetism to convert one energy to another.”
Slide 6:
“The electric motor has had a huge impact on our current society. It first took its hold in
the eighth threshold, the modern revolution. During this time, we have used electric motors to
their fullest extent, making motors so small that you can use them to make an inch wide flying
machines to cars that we can  use to travel large distances. We have also used these machines
in ways that would have been impossible with steam or combustion engines. We’ve made
robots and drones that can complete tasks from miles away and collect energy from the
environment. These motors have carried us through the Modern Revolution and allowed
efficiency to rapidly increase.”

Slide 7:
“I believe that these motors will be an extremely important factor throughout our lives. It
will likely become the most common type of motor, as it can obtain clean, renewable energy
from the environment and use this energy to complete a multitude of tasks. This motor will likely
boost us into the future with its revolutionary ability to convert energy. We have seen a constant
increase in use of the electric motor over time, as well as innovations skyrocketing to make
these motors more efficient and cheaper. And let’s not forget how this motor has more than one
use! It has been used in millions of different machines and has an infinite possibility to do so
much more. I also believe that this motor is a door to further innovation and can allow humans
to further explore the possibilities that our own minds can supply.”
