SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Since the media organization gives information, education and entertains the people, they
also help the people in emergency situation. To determine the problem posed by the influence of
using media in emergency situation and putting forward some recommendation on how to solve
this problem.
The use of media in emergency situation helps them to have more customers. They will
have high income and the customers will always want them so, that will help the organization to
develop and not to collapse.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY


This study focuses on the misuse of media on emergency situation that is the issue of
unique 103.1 fm Ara Station. It is the primary aim of the research work on how the media should
not misuse the emergency period. The way by which the media will not misuse the emergency
period.
The study centre on the effect of mis-using the media during emergency period. This
work has mainly carried out through the review of journal, textbooks, browsing and other
electronic machine.

LIMITATION OF THE STUDY


The search encountered certain constraints during the process of carrying out the work.
Such problem includes financial constraint, non availability of project materials, unfriendly
attitude of the respondent, lack of money etc.

RESEARCH QUESTION
Some of the research questions for this study are the following below.
1. Why do we need media in this country?
2. Why do we use media for emergency situation?
3. Why do some media put themselves in problem when it comes to emergency situation?
4. Which type of media is good in this country?
5. Why do we call media an agent of information?

DEFINITION OF TERMS
a) MEDIA
Media is the communication channels through which news, entertainment, education, data or
promotional messages are disseminated. Media is the way out information to the people,
entertaining the people and educating the people through print media (magazines, newspaper
etc) or broadcast media (television, radio) or out of home (bill boards, digital signage, cell
phone, video game, poster etc) or interactive media (interactive television, interactive
advertising etc)

b) EMERGENCY
A serious, unexpected and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action. Emergency
is any unplanned event that can cause deaths or significant injuries to students, employees,
customers. Etc.

c) SITUATION
A set of circumstances in which one finds oneself, a state of affairs the location and
surroundings.

HISTORY OF THE CASE STUDY


It was the first independent private radio station in the State of Osun which formally
commenced transmission on 1st October 2010. To fulfill the basic objectives of broadcasting,
namely: to inform, to educate and to entertain.
The station is one of the subsidiaries of Continental Broadcasting Services (CBS) Lagos,
the owners of the Television continental, and Radio continental both in Lagos and Adaba fm in
Akure, Ondo state. The mission of this station is to use radio to create effective communication,
to promote culture inculcate morals and strive at corruption free, good and effective governance
in our society.
The vision of this station is to become the foremost radio station South West Nigeria with
quality entertainment, information and education as its watchword.
This station currently operates from its temporary location at B177 Okesa street Ilesha,
Osun State which also houses the transmission studio, and the newsroom. This station
permanent’s site in Ilesha along Ilesha/Akure express way is under construction.
At this station, their strength is in their good performing, and their reach which covers the
whole of South West Nigeria as well as Kwara, Kogi, Edo and Delta States. The station news
services are second to none in objectivity, accuracy and impartiality. The chairman of this station
is Sir Olu Abiola and the first General Manager is Mr. Opeyemi Fajemileyin.
