GETTING STARTED
Before operating your 16-Ton Air/Hyd Pipe Bender, check the contents of the box to make
sure you have everything you will need:
1. Operating Manual
2. 16-Ton Air/Hyd Pipe Bender
3. Handle
4. Bending Dies
This pipe bender is designed to bend water pipe, rigid conduit, heavy-gauge galvanized pipe
used in commercial applications, and other similar types of pipe. When bending thin-walled
pipe or conduit, fill the pipe with sand and cap the ends before bending.
ASSEMBLY
1. Attach the Bottle Jack (2) to the Frame (1) using a Hex Bolt (3).
2. Place the Plate (6) on the head of the Jack. Connect the Plate to the Frame using the two
Springs (17).
OPERATION
1. Place the Pipe Bender on a solid level surface.
2. Attach to workbench using clamps or bolts.
3. Select the Bending Die that matches the size of the pipe you want to bend.
NOTE: This Pipe Bender includes 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 2", 2½" and 3" bending
dies. When choosing a die, select the same size die as the diameter of the pipe you are
bending.
4. Place the Bending Die onto the jack and make sure it is seated properly.
5. If needed, adjust the Rollers (5) for the size of pipe you want to bend:
A. Remove the Hitch Pins (16) and set aside.
B. Remove a Roller Shafts (4) and move the Roller to the desired hole in the Frame.
6. Slide the pipe you want to bend through the pipe bender on top of the bending die and
below the rollers. Make sure the pipe being bent is long enough to be fully supported by the
Rollers and will not suddenly push past the Rollers during the bending process.
7. Make sure the top of the pipe rests against the bottom of the Rollers.
8. Using the slotted end of the Handle (15), tighten the bottle jack Release Valve by turning it
clockwise.
9. Insert the Handle into the Bottle Jack.
Warning: Do not place hands or fingers near the die area while the unit is in use.
10. Pump the Handle up and down to raise the Bottle Jack and bend the pipe. Do not exceed
90 degrees.
11. After bending the pipe to the desired shape, remove the Handle from the Bottle Jack and
loosen the Release Valve by turning it counterclockwise. The ram of the bottle jack will lower.
12. After the ram is lowered, carefully remove the pipe from the pipe bender.
MAINTENANCE
If you notice poor performance with your pipe bender, air could be trapped in the hydraulic
system. To remove this air, see the SYSTEM AIR PURGE section on page 2.
Keep bottle jack retracted and release valve open when not in use.
If hydraulic oil is needed, refill at oil filler plug hole on rear of bottle jack. Use only clean,
high-quality hydraulic jack oil.
Warning
16-TON LIMIT. Do not exceed the maximum limit of the bottle jack.
KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas invite injuries.
KEEP CHILDREN AND PETS AWAY. All children should be kept away from the work
area. Don’t let them handle tools.
TWO-PERSON OPERTION. For safety, when moving the Pipe Bender or bending large
pieces of pipe, always use two people. When bending large pipe, one person is needed to
balance the pipe in the bending dies, while a second person cranks the bottle jack’s
handle.
AVOID MOVING PARTS DURING OPERATION. Keep fingers and hands away from
rollers, bending dies and all moving parts.
STORE IDLE EQUIPMENT. When not in use, jack should be stored in “closed” position
and Pipe Bender stored away from children and in a dry location to reduce rust.
