It is recommended to carefully read and follow the guidelines set in this manual and pay attention to chapter 2 to ensure
USER SAFETY.
Personnel that are to work with and operate the UV system are expected to have sufficient knowledge of electrical,
mechanical and process issues. Always be aware of the dangers and risks of working with UV light.
1.2 System
bestUV systems have been designed for the treatment of liquids. By using state of the art UV technology, the system will
provide years of reliable operation. Because of the use of high grade parts the required service intervals are limited, with
only a few parts that require periodic replacement. See chapter 9 for details on the service and maintenance of the UV
system.
1.3 CE conformity
The producer, bestUV, states that the UV system conforms to the following directives:
The CE conformity can only be guaranteed with original spare parts. If non-original parts are used the CE-conformity is void
as is any remaining warranty on the system.
High voltage. Only certified personnel are allowed to work on the UV cabinet!
2.4 Recycling:
UV lamps contain mercury, which is a hazardous substance. Do not dispose of UV lamps in normal
household waste but instead take them to the nearest recycling center or contact the manufacturer of the
UV system.
Red indicates a serious risk or danger. Instructions or warnings in red attention boxes MUST be
followed.
Yellow indicates attention is required, details that should not be missed or smart tips that can save
time.

4.2 Storage
The bestUV system and spare parts must be stored in a dry environment at a temperature between 10-30ºC, using the
original packaging.
• The UV chamber must preferably be installed horizontally with the outlet position always on top.
• Make sure no air can be entrapped in the UV chamber.
• The UV chamber must be installed in such a way it is always filled with fluid.
• Install the chamber in a clean, dry environment protected from temperatures below 0ºC and above 45ºC.
• Provide sufficient space for servicing. See the mechanical layout drawing of the UV chamber for the minimum
distance required.
• For optimal serviceability, a height between 1-1.5m is recommended.
• Fit isolation valves at the inlet and outlet positions so the chamber can be blocked in and drained during servicing.
• Use a (electrical) valve on the outlet side 4 , connected to the UV control cabinet to protect your process from
_
The UV chamber must be connected to ground! Failure to do so increases the risk of electric shock!
Keep in mind that UV-C radiation ages PVC and most other plastics at an increased rate. It is recommended
to use UV-C resistant materials on the in- and outlet connections of the UV system.
4 An electrical valve is not part of the UV system and has to be purchased separately
Make sure the UV system main switch is in the OFF position before starting any electrical work on the
system.
When connecting the lamp cables to the UV lamps wear cotton gloves to make sure you do not touch the
glass surface of the lamp.
5 In case of systems with an Us4 UV sensor the sensor is individually packed and placed inside the electrical cabinet.
In case the supplied cables are too long, shorten them to the correct length. Excess cable should not be
bundled as this can cause interference.
Make sure the main power supply is switched off before connecting it to the UV cabinet.
The electrical cabinet is preferably installed close to the UV chamber with the controller at eye level for easy operation. The
standard cable length supplied with the system is 5m 6.
The location where the cabinet is to be placed must adhere to the following conditions:
• Make sure all breakers and the systems main switch are placed in the OFF position.
• Connect the lamp cables to the UV lamp(s). Cables are marked “L1” for lamp 1, “L2” for lamp 2, etc.
• Connect the cable marked “UV” to the UV sensor.
• Connect the cable marked “TEMP” to the temperature sensor (only with option PtC).
• Connect the orange cable marked “MOTOR” to the wiper motor module (only with option Ec or Cc).
• Connect all required remote output contacts.
• Connect all required remote input contacts.
• Connect the flow sensor 7.
• Connect the main power supply.
• Measure the mains voltage coming into the UV cabinet and confirm it matches the cabinet type tag on the inside of
the door.
• Put all circuit breakers into the ON position and close the cabinet door.
• Before starting the UV system review chapter seven about the installed control system
Lambda 1 front
5.1 Start up
• check UV chamber connections for leaks at the operating pressure
• check that the UV chamber is completely filled with the treatable liquid and no air is entrapped
• check electrical wiring to see if it is properly terminated
When all items above have been checked the unit can be started. The system is started by switching the main switch on the
electrical cabinet to the ON position. Check the viewport to see if the lamp is on.
5.2 Operation
The Lambda 1 controller provides simple and reliable operation of the bestUV system. After switching the UV system on the
hour’s counter will be running. When in operation the display will show the total run time and a flashing hourglass indicating
it is in operation.
5.3 Troubleshooting
The table below lists possible reasons and solutions when the UV system has failed to start. It is assumed that all electrical
wiring is securely terminated on the correct terminals inside the electrical enclosure, that all auxiliary equipment is
functioning normally and the ambient conditions are within the specified values.
For UV systems with an anti-fouling system see chapter 6 for more information about anti-fouling system maintenance.
Parts can be purchased from your local supplier. For convenience, special service sets have been created for each specific
system containing all required O-rings, seals and other parts required for yearly maintenance.
Minerals in the water can cause fouling of the quartz sleeve(s), reducing the UV intensity in the water. If your bestUV system
does not yet include an anti-fouling system, it is usually possible to upgrade the system. Contact your local supplier for
upgrade possibilities.
Make sure the main switch is in the OFF position before performing maintenance on the UV system!
The information below assumes the system is running in LOCAL mode. If the UV system is running in
REMOTE mode the start and stop buttons on the UV cabinet cannot be used. Switch the UV system to local
mode first.
In case the UV lamp is not pulled out correctly damage to the quartz sleeve and UV lamp may occur!
When all quartz sleeves have been removed clean them with iso-propanol. When a UV sensor is present
also clean the UV sensor window. Replace all seals and O-rings with new ones from the service set.
Depending on the UV system and installed options you can order service sets, which contain all parts that should be
replaced yearly. In addition to the service sets UV lamps, quartz sleeve and any other required parts can be ordered from
your bestUV supplier.
The warranty covers, from production date a full year on the UV system: bestUV will provide, free of charge replacement
parts with defects in material or workmanship. This warranty is also subject to the conditions and limitations as described in
the “General Terms and Conditions”.
The warranty does not cover improper installation (such as a corrosive environment), operation or maintenance of the UV
system. Original bestUV replacement parts must be used to maintain warranty.
During the applicable warranty period, bestUV will provide warranty as described. After the product warranty expires,
repairs and replacement parts will be provided for a reasonable charge
