As requested here is the drawing of how to connect the user port outputs.

Ext 24v
3k ohm
O/P signal When OFF, O/P signal goes towards 24v
Pin 14 When ON, O/P signal goes towards 0v.
Maximum current is 24v = 8mA
Ext 0v 3k ohm
Opto isolator Pin 18
Limit of printer

When the opto is turned OFF, the output signal is held high by the 3k ohm
resistor.
When the opto is turned ON, the output signal is taken low through the
transistor, using the 3k-ohm resistor to limit the current through the device.
The output device can sink up to 10mA maximum.
