Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s woke policies and pontifications are coming home
to roost during the COVID crisis
It played to the gallery when he slammed India’s government and then tried to
make nice by dressing in Bollywood outfits in his 2018 tour of India. It was naive
at best and insulting at worst. He embarrassed this country and was mocked by
Indian officials.
His hamfisted diplomacy damaged our credibility. That’s hurting us now, as this
country casts around for reliable vaccine sources.
Trudeau was forced to go cap in hand to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last
week, looking for more shots. Modi said he’d, “do his best” to get some to us.
Right after he finished laughing.
Then there’s the government’s relationship – or lack of one – with drug companies.
In a column last month in the National Post, Paul Lucas, former CEO with
GlaxoSmithKline, pointed out that 10 years ago that company rapidly produced
vaccines for Canada during the H1N1 epidemic. Since then, the government has
made no effort to work with the pharmaceutical industry. As a result, investment
moved from this country to the U.S., the U.K. and other jurisdictions. You know,
the ones that now have vaccines.
It’s all very well for Liberals to decry “Big Pharma” the fact is innovation and
research cost money.
Instead, Trudeau put his faith in China for a vaccine, relying on the rogue nation
that’s holding two Canadians hostage to bail us out.
He’s spent his time on the world stage showing more concern for his socks than for
building international relationships.
Trudeau keeps a safe distance from the media, in splendid isolation at Rideau
cottage, only popping out briefly to spit insults at the premiers. Parliament is
missing in action and any attempt by the official Opposition to hold him to account
is slammed for not showing solidarity in a crisis.
