BIS REGISTRATION FOR ELECTRONIC & IT PRODUCTS

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MEITY) has notified “Electronics and
Information Technology Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order,
2012″on 3 Oct 2012 for electronics items. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) shall be the
implementation authority for BIS registration process and same shall be through BIS
online portal. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) then registers the manufacturers under
its registration scheme who are permitted to declare that their articles conform to the
Indian Standard (s). Manufacture shall have to register themself under the BIS
registration process and declare their article conform to the Indian Standards.

The government of India mandates various products under BIS certification for public
health. Seventy Electronic and IT products under BIS certification, when you want to
manufacture / import your product in Indian market. It is compulsory for your product
to have a BIS Certificate or Registration. According to BIS (Bureau of Indian Standard) all
Consumer and Home Electronic and IT Products are verified by Indian Government and
certificates issued in 30 day. BIS operates a product certification scheme to maintain
quality, safety, and reliability of products in India for manufacture or importer. If you

importer and manufacturer. BIS provides authentic quality goods, minimizing health risk
to consumers, encouraging exports and imports.

REQUIREMENT FOR BIS LICENSE of Electronic Products

To understand the registration procedure, first we will have to understand the basic
requirement to obtain the BIS Registration for Electronic and IT Products. The four
basic pillars (requirement) to obtain the BIS License are as follows.
Manufacturer

The BIS license shall be granted to the manufacturers (only) not to the importers or the
sellers. However, the importer can act as an Authorized Indian Representative on behalf
of the foreign manufacturer and submit the application to BIS online portal but the final
license shall be granted to the manufacturer only.
Manufacturing Address
If the same manufacturer having multiple factory locations for one product, then
separate BIS license shall be required for each location. All application shell be applied
through BIS online portal.

Product
Each product needs separate BIS license. However, if the same product having different
models, then the same may be covered under one license.
 Brand/ Trademark
Each Brand or Trademark need separate BIS license.
BIS REGISTRATION PROCESS

After understanding the requirements, let’s explore the complete step by step
procedure to successfully get the BIS license (Registration Certificate).
Online Submission Of Application
Firstly, we need to apply for online portal registration along with legal document which
is issued by government to get the valid User ID and Password from BIS authority.
Testing of Products in BIS Approved Lab
After receiving the physical sample from you, we shall generate the BIS online TRL (Test
Request letter) with correct model & rating for initiating to lab to start the testing.

BIS Online/Offline Submission (Hardcopy) of Application

After getting the final test report from BIS approved laboratory, we shall fill the online
application form for BIS registration. The hardcopies of the online generated application
form along with the documents and the test request letter shall be submitted within 15
days of online submission of the application in BIS office.

Security of Application & Report by BIS Officials

BIS officials scrutinize the application submitted and check all the documents

Grant of License
BIS license will be granted within 10-15 working days after receiving the hardcopy in
BIS.
