3. Hmmmm what important skills should a good chemical engineer possess.

Throughout your stay in UP the skills set required to be a good chemical engineer would hone
itself inside you without you knowing. Even outside the engineering world, UP prepares you to be a
world class leader / engineer. All the hardships and devastating times, I’m assuring you there will be a
lot, are all worth it in the end. One day, you’re going to look back and be thankful to all those types of
experiences. Slowly, it surely brings out the best version of you.

With all my experience in Engineering world so far, for me the top three skills/traits that a good
chemical engineer should possess is good fellowship skills, always trust his/herself and above all is being
humble at all times.

Good fellowship skills,

Una sa lahat, di mo masusurvive engineering life mo kung wala kang friends, kaya sobrang
importante ng fellowship skills! Wag kang maging snob. Trust me, sila yung makakasama mo sa
sandamukal na overnights, mga kasama mong gagawa ng probsets, mga kasama mong mag review para
sa long exam, basically you’re gonna help each other survive the engineering life.

Pero syempre important rin sa industry yun, for sure hindi kapa boss sa first job mo in the future
kaya magagamit mo rin tong skill set na to once you’ve entered industry. I went on an internship
program sa Texas Instruments Clark (hindi required internship sa curriculum natin hehe) and yung
primary motto nila dun is “wag mahihiyang magtanong” learning never stops in engineering kaya’t its
important to you to acquire knowledge sa mga mas matagal na sayo sa industry and the best way to do
that is to never stop asking.

Related dito, is yung leadership skills. Engineers are leaders, you are a future leader. For sure you’re
going to lead people in any way kaya’t sobrang critical ng skill na to to engineers. Engineers always work
in teams kaya’t important yung leader and fellowship skills at the same time. From my experience
madedevelop talaga siya throughout your stay in UP, pero it will be helpful if you join organizations in
UP. Sobrang daming opportunity in UP lalo na mga home orgs natin! I’m an ALCHEMIST, and I’ve had
positions there from 3rd year – 4th year and also in UP Aguman. Pero ngayon pahinga na from extra
curricular since graduating hehe. Magaling na org din yung KEM kaya whichever org you choose it will be
beneficial to you.

Trust yourself!!
Di mo rin masusurvive yung Engg life if wala kang tiwala sa sarili mo. For sure may mga exams
kang ibabagsak pero don’t let it even bother you since for sure mas marami pang mas mahihirap na
exams HAHA. Just trust na you’re going to keep learning and learning and learning, and tiwala na
matatapos mo napagdesisyunan mo.

Lastly don’t forget to be humble always. Once you’ve already succeeded, there will be people that will
going to look up on you. Wag mong kakalimutan mga taong tumulong sayong makamit yung dream mo.
Always help the people in need if you’ve seen an opportunity. Engineer, para sa bayan!

I’ve never had a dream job, siguro pinaka dream ko na is makahanap ng trabaho where I would feel that
I belong and that I can still do the things that I love. Pero yes, I would pursue a career that is related to
my course. Maraming opportunity sa ChE eh, and im pretty sure that I’ll keep learning even after grad.

5.

Di ko rin sure charot.

Hmmm first thing first you could join the RnD sector, Cynthia villar who. You can be in the academe to
inspire future future chemical engineers haha. Or join the not so conventional paths haha let’s take for
example my professor in one my electives Sir Jape Esguerra, he graduated as a summa cum laude and he
didn’t take apply for positions on the top companies available in our country, like png and uniliver, but
instead he chose the path were he really feels passionate about and that is the biomass industry, even
though hindi pa ganoong ka establish yung industry na yon sa pinas
