than trying to glue countless individual pieces together, it’s better to prefabricate clumps
of plant material. Simply walk out in the garden or along a country or urban path, and you
will find various species of moss. It may even be falling from your roof into the garden.
Mosses can be excellent for decorating countryside or woodland floors on dioramas. To
prepare this sometimes delicate material, make a small bath out of baking foil and place
the clump of moss inside it. Then, half-fill it with thinned
white glue, and a spot of washing up liquid (to help
break surface tension), and leave it to set for a few
days. Once it’s set, remove it from the foil and it
is ready to use. It can be broken into smaller

The fuselage halves have very large locator pins like the type you
find on the snap type kits, but a quick test fit shows these are spot-
on and make a perfect join.
A quick tip when gluing with thin cement is to brush it on from the
bottom, as this will be drawn up into the join. Otherwise, if you do it from
the top and it gets a run, it has a habit of running through your fingers and
melting the plastic, leaving a finger print.
Then glue the two halves together and install the wing section in place. This all
fits together very well, with not a sign of a gap or need for filler anywhere.
Working through the sanding and polishing sticks, we take care of the seam lines and
re-scribe the panel line that was removed during the clean up.

This kit is incredibly

a little fiddly, but this could be said
of many armour kits, and they are

of note are the well detailed individual track links, Our model build is complete. The only addition is brass wire for antennae and grab

The inclusion of one or more figures always bring life to any armour build or diorama.
In this case, we used a resin World War Two Russian Tank Officer, from the excellent Alpine
Miniatures range (#35004). Alpine’s figures feature crisp detail and the poses are always
well considered and realistic. Using an airbrush, we primed the tank commander figure,
which after drying, received a coat of Iraqi Sand on its flesh areas.
Arguably the most effective tank design from World War Two, this iconic piece

of Russian armour was produced in larger numbers than any other example
of tracked armour during that conflict. It also influenced the design of the
German Panther tank. The very modern (for that time) ideas of sloped armour

dispersal on soft ground were all trademarks of the Betushka (BT-fast tanks). Airbrush the entire hull and turret Sand Yellow,

had to be within 100m to penetrate its armour.
Initial T-34s were equipped with the L-11 gun, followed by the longer F-34
76.2mm weapon, but eventually 85mm guns were employed in larger turrets.
Several tank destroyers and self-propelled guns were also produced on the
same chassis, with much variation in turret and wheels, the latter including
steel and rubber-tired examples. As testimony to the ruggedness and longevity
of the type, some T-34 variants were used until the 1980s.
In short... definitely. This is another superb kit from Dragon, with its

inclusion, along with finer touches such as tie-downs and grab handles

types of hull machine gun covers. There are also metal hinges and
latches for the stowage boxes. Depending on your experience, all these
embellishments can be used or placed in the spares box until you feel

During the months before World War Two, Imperial Airways flew a route
from Kai Tak, in Hong Kong, to Hanoi, French Indo-China.
The service was used by diplomats and on November 7, 1939, three
passengers boarded the airline’s De Havilland DH.86B. More commonly
known as the Express, it was, in essence, a four-engine Dragon Rapide
equipped to carry ten passengers, pilot and navigator/radio operator.
On this fateful flight, the pilot was Captain Joseph N. Wilson, assisted
by First Officer, Mr JF Raeburn. The Express (HB183/G-ADUE), named
‘Dardanus’, departed Kai Tak at 22.58 hrs GMT, carrying three passengers

the following day, the captives were marched aboard a Japanese transport

Commander Houda, Liasion for the Imperial Japanese Navy, spirited away
the passengers, but Wilson and Raeburn were instructed to follow Cdr
Houda’s interpreter, and it was the last the crew saw of the passengers.
Pilot and First Officer were kept at the official Residence in the city,
and experienced further interrogation. Despite being able to keep
each other’s company, the crew remained under armed guard, and
their pleas to make contact with the British Consul were ignored. On
Sunday, November 12, Wilson and Raeburn were handed a copy of the
previous Thursday’s Hong Kong newspaper, and were allowed to listen
to the 1.30pm radio news. The following day at 10am, Cdr Houda
accompanied the men to the Japanese Embassy, where they were
handed over to Mr Leonard Scopes of the British Consular Service, and Lt
Cdr Waite of HMS Moth. Two days later, both crew members returned as
passengers to Honk Kong, via Macao.
