The Recurring Curse

The village was tranquil that a snore from his neighbor could be heard and the
moon from afar shone its glowing light to complement the starry… starry night.
Alex, from his tight sleep woke up suddenly when deafening sounds of gigantic
stones were thrown on the roof agitating the silence. At once, his mother and siblings rose
from their bed and went out in the middle of the dark to meet their father groping on his
way home.

“Where is Alex?”
“I have fired my fist to crash his head till it will tear to pieces”, said his father hardly
mumbling words due to intoxication.
Alex has always been called the black sheep of the family because of his effeminate
features. His dad never liked him eversince that he even wished his death. He never
dreamed of a son to be a gay, as his clan is known for being womanizers with a physique
of Adonis built.
A sound of moaning and groaning could be heard from Alex hut as his dad beat him
hard. His mother’s strength could not do anything to stop his dad from inflicting so much
pain causing him to lose consciousness. Alex lied down motionless with drench of blood
spewing from his mouth. All his mother did was cry and sob over the half dead body of her
son.
This brutal torture would always happen everytime his dad is under the spirit of
liquor. Alex sowed in his heart the intense animosity and kept every bit of hurt his dad
caused him. He promised that one day, he would grow up and take a mighty revenge
against his dad. He even vowed to never cry over the demise of his dad in time, rather spit
on him while laid peacefully in the coffin.
One day, a horrible news came to Alex family while preparing for their breakfast.
“Your dad is murdered by his drinking buddy and his remain is left forsaken in the
junction road”, bitterly cried his neighbor who brought the frightful news.
Alex never knew how to react. He never said a word. Deep inside him, he felt utterly
rejoicing over the sad fate of his father. While his mother was crying a river, he was stone
cold.

Meanwhile, for the first time in his life, Alex found peace. Nobody would hurt him.
Nobody would throw ill words at him. Nobody would wish for his downfall.
But that is not what he thought would happen.

A week after the burial of his father came a dreadful illness to his mother. He never
had any other choice than to work hard to meet both ends. If before he used to have
bruises from his father, this time is worse than ever. He found himself growing thin and
filthy due to rugged work to support his family.
Worse, this kind of life never ends for Alex as he keeps battling to life everyday. His
mother did not survive fighting the terminal illness. His siblings too were gone to save them
from starvation. In other words, he had his family broken.

One night when the rest of the world is sleeping, Alex, in his solitary ways, took a
pause remembering the moments they had when they were one, complete happy family.
His father might have been too bad at him, but he was still cared and loved.
Alex sobbed so hard and his heart was heavy and tight holding the picture fame of
his family. He realized that all what happened to him is a recurring curse for showing
hatred to his father. Now is his turn to travel the same road as his father. He finds it never
easy. It surely never was.
