earns less than 2$ per day.

SPDC (Social Policy Development Centre) Report says that 88 percent of Baluchistan’s population,
51 percent of NWFP, 21 percent of Sindh and 25 percent of Punjab’s population is prey to poverty
and deprivation.

in general economic activity so that, poverty ratio is increased especially of USA and the Europe

who are most exposed to poverty.

Asian Development Bank Report According, poverty is spreading in Pakistan due to the rising
population, Pakistan’s internal situation, agriculture backwardness, unequal income distribution,

Slide six:

According to Report of Pakistan’s Planning Commission (2011), poverty rate has jumped from 23.9
to 37.5 percent. The commission has estimated that for 2007, there were 35.5 million people living
below the poverty line but in 2010 their number increased to over 64 million.

Slide seven: Causes and Reason of poverty

Government Policy: Government taking huge taxes from those with higher incomes and says
that we are not taking money from poor but the thing is people with huge income are mostly
producers and poor are mostly consumers so ultimately, they give rise to their product which are
necessary for life and poor which are consumer so that, ultimately, they are still in difficult
position for running their life.
Lack of educational quality and facility and accountability in educational sector is also a reason
because as we see foreign countries, they are taking free education from government and we
really appreciate it but we see that we also have government schools here but the thing is the
quality of education is not satisfying and because may be lack of awareness in people or some
time due to irresponsible attitude of high qualified teacher because they know that there will be
no concept of accountability about what they had done.
Slide eight:
Over Population: Over population is also a huge factor of increase in poverty because people
are not aware for proper up bringing their children. Poverty is considered as the
leading cause of overpopulation. In the absence of educational resources, coupled with high
death rates, which resulted in higher birth rates, that is why poor areas are seeing large boom in
population.
Unemployment: Without a job or a livelihood, people will face poverty. joblessness comes a
loss of income, and many families are left without sufficient incomes to meet living expenses
Slide nine:
Land Division: Land degradation is a major problem globally, and is increasingly linked to food insecurity.
And we know the association of supply and demand which is directly proportional. If the food is not
present in excess quantity so we see increase in prizes and become out of reach to middle class and they
fall in poor category.

Materialism: Materialism is also a huge factor because as we see it mean explaining love in terms of
material things. An example of materialism is valuing a new car over friendships.
