➢ In 2018, Indian PM Modi signed 4 bilateral agreements during his visit to Philippines, and 
acquiring Brahmos is one among them. 
➢ Significance :- The acquisition proves that India’s Act East Policy is being strengthened.

❖ Chinar Corps celebrates 73rd Infantry Day in Jammu and Kashmir. 
➢ The celebrations took place at BB Cantt to honour the supreme sacrifice of the gallant 
soldiers in fighting the Pakistani invaders in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947. 
➢ October 27 is celebrated as Infantry Day by the Indian Army in J&K as it was on this day 
that two Infantry companies of the first battalion of the Sikh regiment were airlifted from 
Delhi to Srinagar to liberate Kashmir from the Pakistani invaders(Kabailis) and regulars of 
the Pakistan Army. 
➢ Local population fighting shoulder to shoulder with the Indian Army pushed back the 
invaders West of Uri by the end of November 1947.

❖ Exercise Shakti 2019 – India and France In Rajasthan. 
❖ IMNEX-2019 - India-Myanmar Naval Exercise Commenced in Visakhapatnam.  
❖ Sindhu Sudarshan - Indian Army to conduct exercise codenamed as ‘Sindhu Sudarshan’ in the 
deserts of Rajasthan from 29 November to 4 December 2019. 
➢ More than 40,000 troops will be participating in an all-arms battle array of Divisions and 
Brigades carrying out o ensive operations in deserts. The exercise will showcase a high 
degree of synergy between the Indian Army and Indian Air Force. 
❖ EX EASTERN BRIDGE-V - Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Royal Air Force Oman (RAFO) at Air 
Force Base Masirah in Oman. For the first time that the MiG-29 fighter aircraft participated in an 
international exercise outside India. 
❖ Exercise ‘Shinyuu Maitri’ - The Indian Air Force and Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) was 
held at Air Force Station, Arjan Singh, Panagarh, West Bengal. 
❖ Vajra Prahar - The 10th edition of the joint military exercise was conducted between India and 
the US at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Seattle from October 13 till October 28. 
❖ Dharma Guardian - The joint military exercise between India and Japan conducted in Mizoram 
from October 19 to November 2. 
❖ Exercise Nomadic Elephant XIV - 14th edition of Indo-Mongolian Joint Exercise conducted over a 
period of 14 days conducted from 05 Oct 19 to 18 Oct 19 at Bakloh in Himachal Pradesh. 
❖ Military Exercise Ekuverin– Tenth edition of the Joint between the Indian Army and the Maldives 
National Defence was organised from 07 to 20 October 2019 at Aundh Military Station in Pune, 
Maharashtra. 
➢ Ekuverin means ‘Friends’ in the Dhivehi language. 
❖ Exercise KAZIND - India-Kazakhstan Joint Military 2019 was held at Pithoragarh,Uttarakhand 
from 02 to 15 October 2019. 
➢ KAZIND-2019 is the fourth edition of the exercise which is conducted alternatively in 
Kazakhstan and India.. 
❖ Malabar 2019 : The 23rd edition of the trilateral maritime exercise of India, Japan and the United 
States(US) named “Malabar 2019” exercise begun at Sasebo, Japan. 
❖ SITMEX 2019 - The inaugural trilateral exercise, involving the Indian Navy (IN), the Republic of 
Singapore Navy (RSN), and the Royal Thailand Navy (RTN), recently commenced at Port Blair, 
Andaman and Nicobar. 
❖ Maitree 2019 : Conducted between India and Thailand at Foreign Training Node, Umroi 
(Meghalaya) from 16-29 Sep 2019.  
❖ Exercise SLINEX 2019 : The Indian and Sri Lankan Navy conducted the annual Joint Indo-Lanka 
maritime fleet exercise SLINEX 2019 at the port of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh on 
September 7, 2019. 
❖ Yudh Abhyas 2019 : 15th Indo-US Joint Military Exercise was held Washington from 5 September

overcome the technological challenges in this remote area of Ladakh.

honour Air Force Marshal late Arjan Singh. 
➢ This year we mark the birth centenary of Marshal of the IAF Arjan 
Singh DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross). As a tribute to his exemplary service to our nation, a 
stamp was released. 
➢ Arjan Singh is an icon of Indian military history and the best remembered for providing 
excellent leadership to a young IAF during the 1965 war. 
➢ He served as the Chief of Air Sta from August 1964 to July 1969. Even after retirement, he 
continued to serve in various positions including India's Ambassador to several countries. 
➢ Government of India designated him as the Marshal of the Air Force in January 2002. He 
remains the only o cer of the IAF to be given a Five-Star rank. 
➢ The IAF celebrating its 87th anniversary on 8 Oct 2019. IAF was founded on October 8, 1932.

❖ Name of Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna added to National War Memorial. 
➢ He was killed by JKLF terrorists in 1990, has been added to the National War Memorial after 
it was approved by the Indian Air Force. 
➢ Squadron Leader Khanna and three other IAF personnel were killed in January 1990 in 
Kashmir allegedly by JKLF founder Yasin Malik. Twenty-seven bullets were pumped into 
Khanna's body. The trial against Malik had resumed last month in Jammu. 
➢ An Air Force o cial said Khanna's name was missed out in the National War Memorial and 
the mistake has now been rectified. 
➢ The National War Memorial at the India Gate is dedicated to the defence personnel who laid 
down their lives for the country. 
➢ The three armed services approve the names of the soldiers after which they are included in 
the National War Memorial.
