ELECTRIC DISCHARGE
MACHINE
The electric discharge machine (EDM) is a modern method used to
remove material from a workpiece using thermal energy. It is an
answer to the traditional machining methods. All the processes that
are performed with the EDM have high accuracy and can be applied
to conductive materials. Here are a few things that one should know
about the electric discharge machine:
How does it work?

An electric discharge machine involves the use of high-frequency

electric sparks from soft metal or graphite. These metals serve as the
electrode in the entire set-up that helps in disintegrating the
conductive material electrically. The conductive material is generally
carbide or sometimes hardened steel. Once the set-up is complete,
with the help of the thermal energy produced by the electric charges,
the conductive material is removed from the workpiece. One of the
highly used EDMs is the CNC electric discharge machine.
Advantages of EDM

Here are some of the advantages provided by an EDM over traditional discharge
machines:

● One of the most important features of an EDM is that it can be used on any
material as long as the material is conductive.
● With the help of EDM, one can reach to a certain depth and can cut a shape
that is almost impossible to reach with a traditional cutting tool.
● EDM also comes in handy when you are working on a hardened substance.
Whereas in a traditional discharge machine, the substance is softened by
heating.
Mitsubishi Electric is one of the most trusted names when it comes to
electric and electronic components. They have been in the industry
for a long time and have some of the finest equipment that is helping
industries ease their operations. These machines help by reducing
the manual workload and offering accurate results.
