Introduction

WatherYk company is a breakthrough to overcome the water crisis in indonesia related

to the minimum usage of water, limited access to mineral yet consumable water, and the
shortage of water in some parts of indonesia caused by water pollution , WatherYk is an answer
for big mineral water manufacturer to reduce the usage of plastic package on their production.
Wather Yk is also a concept by our company to develop new habits in society in a sophisticated
way and answer both the destructive; plastic waste problem and the water issues in indonesia.

Background Problems

Water connects every aspect of life. Access to safe water and sanitation can quickly
turn problems into potential – empowering people with time for school and work, and
contributing to improved health for women, children, and families around the world. The water
in our bodies is essential for life. Without water, we can’t survive. Since the water in our bodies
is continually being used or lost, it needs to be continually replaced, and the best fluid to replace
it with is pure mineral water (Water.org, 2018).

Water is involved in every bodily function from digestion and circulation through to
the control of body temperature and the excretion of waste products. The water in our bodies
is continually being used or lost from the body. Some is used or absorbed by the functions it
performs and some is lost through sweat, urine and faeces (GHFL, 2016).

Aside from how important water to our life is, plastic product also essential to our daily
lives, Plastic is versatile, lightweight, flexible, moisture resistant, strong, and relatively
inexpensive. Those are the attractive qualities that lead us, around the world, to such a
voracious appetite and over-consumption of plastic good. In other words its useful and
practical. However durable and very slow to degrade, plastic materials that are used in the
production of mostly products ultimately become waste with staying power. Our tremendous
attraction to plastic, coupled with an undeniable behavioral prospensity of increasingly over-
consuming, discarding, littering, and thus polluting has become a combination of lethal nature
(Guern, 2018). There is a plastic suitable for almost any application. Plastics do not corrode,
though they can degrade in UV (a component of sunlight) and can be affected by solvents —
for example, PVC plastic is soluble in acetone.
Problem Statement

Water scarcity is the lack of sufficient available water resources to meet the demands
of water usage within a region. It already affects every continent and around 2.8 billion people
around the world at least one month out of every year. More than 1.2 billion people lack access
to clean drinking water. Water scarcity involves water stress, water shortage or deficits, and
water crisis (Rinkesh, 2016).

This happens in Indonesia as Indonesia in some parts of regions often lack source of
clean water for daily use such as drinking etc, while in some other parts of the region, river
flows with mountains of garbage in its flows. Meanwhile the problem faced by indonesian not
only the shortage of water but also dehydration, means; people with access to clean water lack
the awareness of how important water to their body thus they consume wather with other
substance within the water like coffee or fruit syrup, therefore the esssence of water cannot be
absorbed prefectly by our body. Multiple disease and illness will potentially caused by this
matter (Arifin, 2018).

Aside from that Plastic has always been the most practical packaging for any mineral
water such as bottles and cups. Plastic waste has became a troublesome problem in our society
especially plastic bottles and plastic straws at any restaurant and minimarket which used for
various drinks, A plastic waste is one of indicator that cause water crisis. A million plastic
bottles are bought around the world every minute and the number will jump another 20% by
2021, creating an environmental crisis some campaigners predict will be as serious as climate
change.

Indonesia, the second-largest contributor of plastic waste to the world’s waters after
China, has pledged US$1 billion per year to attempt to reduce the junk in its waters by 70
percent by 2025, according to Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for
Maritime Affairs (Zulfikar, 2017). The demand, equivalent to about 20,000 bottles being
bought every second, is driven by an apparently insatiable desire for bottled water and the
spread of a western, urbanised “on the go” culture to China and the Asia Pacific region. Most
plastic bottles used for soft drinks and water are made from polyethylene terephthalate (Pet),
which is highly recyclable. But as their use soars across the globe, efforts to collect and recycle
the bottles to keep them from polluting the oceans, are failing to keep up. Tragically it leads
into serious problem for those who lives under the sea, the plight of marine animals swimming
in a sea full of plastics comes to the surface, a painful reminder that current consumption
behaviors are causing this irreversible damage to the environment. National geographic
explains in their article a dead sperm whale that washed ashore in eastern Indonesia had
consumed a horrifying collection of plastic trash, including 115 drinking cups, plastic bottles
and etc. other than that another cameo of discovered male turtle off the coast of Costa Rica
shows blood streaming out of its nose and him sneezing and squealing multiple times caused
by a trapped plastic straws. The crisis of plastic waste isn’t just limited to the ocean, but it has
also affected Indonesian rivers. Data from Nature Communications revealed that four of
Indonesia’s rivers – Brantas, Solo, Serayu and Progo – rank among the 20 most polluted rivers
in the world. It leads Indonesia to face any water problems.

(While the concept of water stress is relatively new, it is the difficulty of obtaining
sources of fresh water for use during a period of time and may result in further depletion and
deterioration of available water resources.Water shortages may be caused by climate change,
such as altered weather patterns including droughts or floods, increased pollution, and
increased human demand and overuse of water.

Those plastic waste which occupies sea, river and any water resources, turned out to be
a clean water crisis. A water crisis is a situation where the available potable, unpolluted water
within a region is less than that region's demand. Water scarcity is being driven by two
converging phenomena: growing freshwater use and depletion of usable freshwater resources.
Water scarcity can be a result of two mechanisms: physical (absolute) water scarcity and
economic water scarcity, where physical water scarcity is a result of inadequate natural water
resources to supply a region's demand, and economic water scarcity is a result of poor
management of the sufficient available water resources.)

Some big mineral water manufacturer such as Danone Aqua is the market leader for
bottled water in Indonesia has been facing this kind of phenomena in recent years. Danone
Aqua has been working to overcome this matter with some campaigns and plastic waste
management yet their production still contain a lot of plastic stuff like bottles, cups and straws.
But still the endeavor worked towards the goal still have no outcome. Therefore there is a need
for our company to take along within the process.
Solution

We believe that our company WATHER-YK incorporation is the best answer for the
attention of big mineral water manufacturer has to reduce the usage of plastic on their
