OCCUPATION HEALTH STANDARDS

Everywhere we go we may encounter certain dangers or hazards that may cause

harm to our health and wellbeing. This type of danger is usually occurring in every
workplace depending on the situation and circumstances. While many hazards are
easily recognizable, there are also many that go unnoticed and could result in a life-
threatening or long-term health problem. Hazards are classified into 5 and these are;
physical, chemical, biological, psycho-social, and ergonomic. Hazards take on many
types; including dropping objects, airborne sparks and chemicals from toxic substances,
loud noises, and other potentially dangerous conditions. In addition, workplace hazards
are due to technical problems or inefficiency and the lack of safety procedures but, in
the majority of cases, they emerge from psychological issues such as distress,
depression, or anxiety among employees. These concerns often result in workplace
abuse, which poses a danger to many people both within and outside the organization.

Therefore, safety procedures and protocols are established to lessen/minimize or

to avoid any harm or danger in the workplace. Such rules and regulations are made
possible through the help and coordination of different government agencies with the
goal of protecting the overall welfare and safety of the workers in the workplace.
Wearing PPE is required especially when working on construction sites and chemical
plants. The use of PPE in the workplace helps eliminate exposure to possible hazards.
Each employee must be aware of the possible hazards in their workplace and also have
the right to reject work that they feel is dangerous and can affect them. Employers, on
the other hand, are responsible for shielding their staff from health and safety risks at
work. Employers must also implement health and safety benefits and compensations for
those workers that are exposed to such hazards (e.g., hospital fee).  Moreover, it is very
important to remember that our safety in the workplace is the most important thing
because we may die at any given moment when exposed to such hazards.
