PROFESSIONAL GROWTH PLAN

2020-2021

1. GOAL (What I want to work on)

This year my focus will be on developing an assessment plan guides my in class summative and formative
assessment for the spring Career-Life Connections course. I will also integrate more self-assessment
practices into assignments and projects in class.

2. RATIONALE (Why I want to work on it)

When I previously taught this course, I found myself marking too many smaller assignments with little “buy
in” from the students for a majority of them. It is important for me this year to create assessment pieces that
better reflect the interests of my students within the course.

3. ACTION PLAN (How I will achieve my goal)

I will connect with teachers who attended the assessment professional development day with Myron Dueck,
as well as administrators at the school. Further, I will co-plan with another teacher who is teaching CLE
during the same block in second semester. I will seek feedback for creating meaningful self-assessment
tools that accompany the summative assessment I have planned for the unit. This will ensure that I will
create an assessment plan that is valid, reliable and fair.

4. TIME LINE (When I will accomplish my plan)

I will have my year plan and assessment overview completed prior to the beginning of second semester. I
will connect with those aforementioned prior to the beginning of the course for a general overview of my
assessment plan. I will then connect throughout the semester to ensure that my assessment plan is on track
and make revisions accordingly.

5. SIGNS OF SUCCESS (How will I know if my goal has been achieved?)

At the end of the semester, I hope to have several student examples of self-assessment and summative work
to demonstrate the success of the assessment plan. Further, I will seek student feedback of the assignments
completed in class to ensure they are relevant. Ultimately, my grade book should reflect my assessment plan
and the assessments done in class.
