Humans cannot contain their selves from what they know and understand, rather they

seek for the answer of what is possible. Through diligent, continues, and painstaking research,
humans unveil the truth and the hidden secrets of the world. I, as a science loving man, I’m truly
grateful for everyone who commit their lives to make such progress for the human kind. With the
knowledge they given to us, we must continue to progress in every day we live.
As science continues to progress, we can expect that the impossible can become possible.
We already know what we are made of and the proportion of what makes up. On the current
progress we have, biologist can make a synthetic cell and organism. On the last week of March,
2016, J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) and Synthetic Genomics Inc. (SGI) announced that they
had created a fully synthetic bacterium to have the smallest genome of any self-replicating
organism with just 473 genes (totaling 531,000 bases) which they named as JCVI-syn3.0
(Thorne, 2016). According to Krulwich (2016), it started with a goat intestine bacterium, copied
its chemistry, booted it up, and the one by one, they looked at each and every gene and remove
it. Out of the 473 genes, 32% or 149 genes they discovered it that is have no known function.
Oliver Fetzer, SGI CEO said that “this important milestone lays the foundation to rationally
design and engineer bio-based production systems. For example, we see a very large opportunity
to revolutionize the discovery and manufacture of life-saving medicines produced biologically,
an ever increasing portion of today’s most innovative medicines”. I’m definitely amazed when I
read articles that reported this remarkable progress. Through this creation that led us to make a
major step towards the ability to design and build synthetic organism, we can now study more
about what is we are made up of that makes us alive.
