Module 3 – Learning Task

1. What qualities characteristics should a teacher of multi-grade possess?

The main function of the Multi-grade teacher is to teach students by imparting


knowledge. The teacher is expected to be versatile and utilize different strategies. To
make learning meaningful and effective, a multi-grade teacher should be well-organized,
creative and flexible, willing to work hard, resourceful, self-directed, and willing to work
closely with the community, and strong belief in the importance of cooperation and
personal responsibility in the classroom with the ability to develop these characteristics.

2. What makes a good teacher an excellent teacher?

Teachers are in a position to have a significant influence on the students they


teach. There are many teachers from my past that have helped, stimulated, encouraged, or
even inspired me. Teachers can, and do, improve lives. A good teacher can create beliefs
and behaviors, setting an example and follow. They can have a direct influence on
careers. A good teacher is an excellent teacher when they are able to get the best out of
the people they teach and it is often for this that a good teacher is profoundly admired.

3. How can you be an effective multi – grade teacher?

Multi-grade teachers have to deal with a class of students that often has a very
wide range of ages and consequently learning abilities, all together in the same room. In
order to be effective multi-grade teacher, you must utilize a very good planning and
develop teaching and learning strategies specially targeted for your classroom. Above all,
you must be dedicated and willing to work hard to overcome the problems and the
peculiarities of multi-grade education.

Learning Takeaways
I learned that multi-grade teaching is an important and appropriate way to provide good
quality education to children who are often neglected by their education system because of the
area of living they have, poor and remote communities.

I realized that learning environment should also be considered to create a classroom


conducive to learning. A kind of classroom that provide the opportunity to break down the
hindrance between grades and look at the students as a group of learners. Multi-grade teachers
are the key to plan, design, and manage the range of both grade – appropriate and mixed – grade
activities for children to keep the learners to learn.

Therefore, a multi-grade teacher have to be flexible and use various types of methods,
according to their specific teaching need at the time. This not only supports the worth of the
teacher and serves the national curriculum goals, but also represent flexible methods that
encourage children to be independent and develop their personalities.
