Differentiate Monograde and multigrade classes in terms of the following:

a. Methods

-In teaching monograde, the teacher teaches only one grade. The learners in
each grade are usually of the same age but may differ in abilities. And in
multigrade teaching, the teacher can follow different approaches like direct
observation, peer group guidance, lesson-oriented teaching, group learning,
and supervision methods.

b. Organization

-Monograde classes are normally the preferred unit of organization in graded


school systems. A multigrade class is one that contains two or more grade
levels of students. It may be contrasted with a monograde class that contains
only one grade level.

c. Relationships

- In monograde, peers are form only with the same grade level. While in
multigrade, they can have friends with the different grade level.

d. Tutoring

- Proper discussion in monograde and more on hands-on activities than


discussion in multigrade class

e. Teacher training

- Monograde is teacher centered and teacher can freely organize what to do.
While in multigrade, it is students centered and teacher may feel confusion
and stress because they teach more than one grade level everyday.

f. Number

-In a monograde class, Any class exceeding 35 students up to a maximum


of 45 students shall be considered a large class. In no case shall a class size
In excess of 45 students be permitted.A multigrade class is defined as a class
of 2 or more grades under one teacher in a complete or incomplete
elementary school.

g. Curriculum

-In monograde, it instruct the class as a whole. While in multigrade, it instruct


students in different discussion.
h. Remuneration

- Multigrade class is given special hardship allowance.

- In teaching monograde class, the teachers are extraordinary wellsprings of


learning, thriving and edification to which anybody can be profited for entire
life. While the skills if you are a multigrade teacher. Being Efficient and
Flexible in the Use of Time: The choice and organization of activities are
essential conditions for good multigrade classroom management. You should
also have a clear idea of how to divide your students by both grade and age
levels and what types of activities are best for different groups.

J. Resources

-Instructional materials are only for one class so it’s cheap and convenient for
teacher. While in the multigrade class, teachers prepare different set of
instructional materials for each grade which is very expensive and time
consuming.
