III. PROCEDURE
Preliminaries A volunteer is asked to lead the prayer then learners arrange
their chairs and pick up pieces of trash, followed by the
greetings through an echo song. The teacher greets the learners
“good morning” by singing it in a particular tune and asks the
students to give their response using the same tune as the
teacher’s. Then, a short conversation like “how are you”
follows using the same process.

Review Through a question and answer strategy, the teacher asks the
learners various questions related to the previous topic, the
elements of music, specifically – rhythm, dynamics, and
timbre.
Learners will raise their hand to answer or the teacher might
pick some of the learners to respond.

Motivation “Singing Round and Round”

(Round Song)
Learners are asked if they are familiar with the song Row Your
Boat. Teacher gives the tune and sings the song first and the
learners will sing in unison to familiarize the song. Later, the
learners are grouped into three. The teacher then points his/her
hand to the group who will sing the song first, then to the next
and so on until all learners are singing with a reverb effect.

After at least two rounds of singing the song, the learners are
then asked to tap their feet and clap their hands to give an
accompanying beat to the song as they sing it with increasing
speed. Then they are asked to sing it alternately in fast and slow
tempo and with alternating soft and loud voice. This also gives
them a recap of the elements of music involved in the lesson to
be discussed.

Presentation of the Lesson

1. Activity “Tugtog at Hula; Sagot sa ‘Di Tugma”
The teacher shows excerpts of videos of the famous musical
pieces from various Philippine contemporary composers. In the
same grouping, the learners will guess the title of the piece. The
group who fails to guess the title will be given a chance to
answer a random question related to elements of music to
recover the lost point. The group who will get highest points
will be given additional 2 points in the quiz.

2. Analysis Learners are asked on their insights about the activity

performed; the questions will possibly lead learners to guess
the topic or lesson for the day. Moreover, HOTS questions, are
also incorporated in the activity as follows:

1. What have you observed in the songs that you have heard in
terms of their musical characteristics?
2. What did you feel while listening to the song?
3. Why did you feel that way?
4. What makes the song interesting?
5. Based on our previous topic about Philippine contemporary
music composers, who is your most favorite? Why?

3. Abstraction The discussion focuses on the background of selected famous

contemporary (traditional and new music) Philippine
composers and their masterpieces. Also included in the
discussion is the composition of an Isabelanon native, the
Isabel, Leyte Hymn.

The selected masterpieces from the composers highlighted in

the discussion are played for the learners to listen carefully. A
discussion on the description of the elements of music present
in the musical pieces will come about after every song.

4. Application In the same grouping, the learners will listen to the music of
Philippine contemporary composers and accomplish the
following tasks:
For song no. 1:
1. Notice the rhythm of the song, is it fast or slow?
2. In dynamics, what syllable got the loudest volume in the
line: Sa aking pagtulog na labis ang himbing?
3. What is the timbre of the song?

For song no. 2:

4. What is the time signature of the song?
5. In a short bond paper, draw a ball and shade it according to
the timbre of the song.

For song no. 3:

1. Write a one-paragraph description of Lucrecia Kasilag’s
instrumental piece Toccata for Percussion and Winds (1959).
Explain briefly the rhythm, dynamics, and timbre of the piece.
(Rubric is used for rating).

A representative for each group will share their answers to the

class. Teacher gives feedback for each of the presentation.

IV. EVALUATION The learners will answer a 10-item listening test from the music
of Philippine contemporary and local composers. Questionnaire
is flashed on screen thru a projector or television.

V.ASSIGNMENT/HOMEWORK Choose one song from any of the Philippine contemporary

music composers and practice it for next meeting’s
performance.
