Introduction

In today’s world, computer technology became a necessity of life in every aspect. From
farming and weather to financial models, writing an application to selling a house, typing college
assignment to designing industrial project, medical treatment/surgery to setting a business
appointment online. It has made life very easy in a modern way which most of the people are not
aware of even they are linked to this computer technology in their daily life. Computer has
gathered the whole world in a tiny place where everything could be found and accessed.

This word computer is derived from Latin term “Computare” which means calculate or
programmable device/machine. If we look at the presence of computer technology, we can take
an example of latest COVID-19 pandemic where people are isolated to work from home online,
which help them to focus only on work instead of wasting time by traveling to work and going
back home. The biggest benefit of this computer machine is those industries that are using
computer robots to overcome manual labor. These robots have ability to work seven times faster
than manual labor. Computer technology has opened various means of communication, social
media like Face-book and twitter is a good platform for teenagers where they can learn and
develop their skills according to the market’s need. Although computer could be used in various
places like managing home budget and monitoring office tasks from home. For entertainment it
is used for playing computer games, watching movies, cartoons and cricket match etc. For social
media, it could help to interact with your loved ones globally via Face-book, Skype etc.

Advantages of Computer:

 In schools, computer can save time in numerous ways such as completing a research in a
very short time instead of collecting data by physically visiting prospect’s location. This
technology has removed the physical presence of a tutor and now students can take their
lectures online without wasting time of going institute, waiting for teacher to come and
moving back home or at work. Exams could be performed online by using computer and
result could be received in a soft copy.
 Computer has made life very easy where a man with kids is no longer bound to 9 to 5
working and can easily manage time for their children. It has made the biggest
contribution in communication field with social media, video calling and chatting

application which allow us to share photos and documents with loved ones living on long
distance.
 People tend towards online trading by using computer and according to the latest survey
where 50% of the world turns to online trading just because of its ease, to save time, find
wide range of products with pricing. For instance: People can now easily purchase bulk
product on whole sale rate from Amazon and eBay globally.

Disadvantages of Computer:

 When a student starts using computer for writing an assignment then indirectly he is
replacing pen & paper which may affect his hand writing. Also, his grammar and spelling
might suffer because he is totally relying on computer for spelling and grammar
correction which makes a student dull in absence of computer.
 Computer has replaced the manpower which has ultimately created unemployment in the
market because companies have installed computer to fasten their operational process and
keep data accessible.
 It may divert an employee from work to web surfing, playing games, watching movies
and engaging in social messaging etc when given a complete internet access at work
place. An entertaining or irritating content shared by an employee on work floor may
cause diversion of other employees’ attention, a biggest disadvantage at work place.

Many companies and institutions use computer to save sensitive data of their customers like
credit card number, social security number or important login credentials which could be hacked
by hackers where customers’ data and back account could be drained out. In order to deal with
such hackers, many companies have their own IT expert and hackers who have built strict
security measures and protected their data by using heavy and expensive software.
