FIRE REACTION

In order to meet the requirements of the legal regime of Fire Protection and Safety in Buildings, DL 220/2008 and
Ordinance nº1532/2008, ALAÇO presents a range of products tested in a certified laboratory.

The way the materials used in the various construction elements react to fire is of extreme importance for fire
safety, it determines the evolution of a possible fire, conditioning the time for safe evacuation of the building, as
well as the control and extinction of the fire.

The Reaction to Fire is the indicator that allows us

to classify the fire behavior of a material, analyzing
its contribution to the initial spread of fire and its
development.

The classification of reaction to fire is harmonized at

European level by the EN 13501-1 Standard.

• EN ISO 11925-2 Test:

Ignitability test (direct flame application on the
insulation foam);

• EN 13823 Test:
Combustion isolated element test (SBI).

L.N.E.C. Homologation Decision - National Laboratory of Civil Engineering - Lisbon -

Portugal. All trials and tests carried out, which values are given below, were aimed at
ALAÇO’s isothermal sheet with natural aluminum color on the exterior.

SALT SPRAY RESISTANCE

When compared with galvanized steel sheet, for an exposure time of 553 hours, the ALAÇO isothermal sheet showed only a slight
loss of brightness after 120 hours, while the galvanized sheet in the first 48 hours appears with white products, in the next hours
the phenomena intensifies and at 352 hours shows rust bites and by 553 hours late it ends withthe appearance of clear rust
(Bulletin LNEC 7898/82).

ISOTHERMAL SHEET- 3mm THICK

ALAÇO Isothermal sheet is made up of a tough core of 0.45 mm or 0.63 mm galvanized sheet steel with a 3mm total thickness
sheet, protected on both sides by mineral-laden bituminous layers which are covered by embossed aluminum sheets, with the
upper face in natural colors, green, black, copper brown or light ivory and the bottom face in natural aluminum.

RESISTANCE TO THERMAL SHOCK

According to “Directives Generales de I´UEAtc pour l´agrément des revêtements d´étancheité de toitures”
(July 1982), isothermal sheet specimens were subjected to 10 heating-cooling cycles, having the following
characteristics and duration:
- Surface heating up to 80 °C, which is maintained for one hour by 8 - 7600 W - individual gas radiators;
- Cooling of test pieces, for 10 minutes under water, at a temperature between 15º C and 20º C.
After 10 cycles, there was no change in the specimens.

26
ISOTHERMAL SHEET

THERMAL INSULATION
Exposed to the sun prevents overheating and regulates the temperature inside the roof, which means an ideal
product for buildings without insulation. The reflecting power (R) of Alaço’s isothermal sheet reduces the absorbed
heat by the cover. Also its low radiating power (I) limits transmission into the absorbed heat cover.

THERMAL RESISTANCE (K Value)

Trials carried out on ALAÇO’s isothermal sheet beakers determined the following average thermal resistance value:
0,021 m2 º C/W (0,024 m2.hºC/kcal.). The average coefficient of thermal transmission - K value - is, under summer
thermal conditions, 4,15 W/m2 ºC (4,82 kcal/m2hºC).

SUPPORTING CONDITIONS
The following minimum distances are defined for the support conditions of the profiled sheet:
• Support in steel or reinforced concrete beams: minimum support distance of the sheet in the beam of 50 mm and
minimum total support distance in the beam of 75 mm, respectively.

ARMOR
In the reinforcement of concrete, armors with various purposes are needed:
• Distribution armor - an armor to meet the shrinkage of concrete and the distribution of point loads which must be
placed 25 mm from the upper concrete surface is required.

DISTRIBUTION ARMOR

25

• AContinuity armor - there may also be armors to ensure continuity and limit cracking on intermediate supports
(negative bending moments). For not very distinct consecutive spans, the continuity armor should be extended
beyond the support axis of about 30% of the span, and placed at a 25 mm depth, as specified in the image below.

EXTENSION OF THE CONTINUITY ARMOR OVER THE INTERMEDIATE SUPPORTS TO APPROXIMATELY EQUAL SPANS.

0.3x(L1+L2)

25

L1 L2

• Additional armor in the span - in the middle for increased resistance to positive bending moments. In this case
the armor may still be needed to satisfy the limit state regarding fire resistance. If they exist, they must be placed
centered on their ribs and raised 30 mm from the profiled sheet and can be interrupted in the support area.
