JOB INTERVIEW PART 1

Dear Students.

You are going to have a list of questions that you need to practice for an interview. The
interview has two parts. One is about yourself and the other one is about Automation.

Part 1. Answer the questions about Automation.

Common questi ons you’ll be asked during a job interview in Automati on.

1. What are the five IEC1131  programming languages?

R= Instruction list, structured text, Ladder diagram, function block and sequential
function part

2. Explain the PID Based Control System?

R= It is an electric controller: Proportional, Integral and Derivative.

3. Please explain the difference between a PLC and DCS?

R= PLC: Programmable logic controller

DCS: Distributed Control System

4. What is Encoder?

R= It is a rotary device.

5. What are the different components used in automation?

R= Sensors, transmitters, valves, controllers, PID, PLC and DCS Controllers.

6. Who are the leading PLC providers?

R= SIEMENS, ABB, ROCKWELL, SCHNEIDER.

7. Who are the leading DCS providers?

R= HONEYWELL, FISHER, YOKOGAWA, ROSEMOUNT, MOORE AND FOXBORO

8. Who are the leading SCADA software companies?

R= SIEMENS, ROCKWELL, GE, WONDERWARE, ASPEN TECH

9. What types of sensors are used for measuring?

R= Ultrasonic, light, temperatura, Pressure, Flow, Level , Conductivity, Density, and

PH Type sensors.

10. What is a transmitter?

R= It is an electronci device mounted in the field or plant close to a sensor.

11. Why is 4-20 mA preferred over 0-10 V Signal?

R= It is susceptible to voltage drops caused by wire resistance, especially over long

cable runs.

12. Why is 4-20 mA preferred over the 0-20 mA signal?

R= A 4-20 mA or 0-20 mA signal, on the other hand, offers increased immunity to

both electrical interference and signal loss over long cable runs.

13.Difference between 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wire transmitters?

R= The difference between a 2 wire, 3 wire and a 4 wire is the power supply.A 4 wire
has 2 wires for power supply, 2 wire for the control.
