By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail
and consumer levels and reduce food losses along
production and supply chains, including post-harvest
losses.
Facts and Figures

• Each year, an estimated 1/3 of all food produced –


equivalent to 1.3 billion tons worth around $1 trillion
– ends up rotting in the bins of consumers and
retailers, or spoiling due to poor transportation and
harvesting practices.
• The food sector accounts for around 30 per cent of
the world’s total energy consumption and accounts
for around 22 per cent of total Greenhouse Gas
emissions.

Negative Effects of Unsustainable
Agrofood Production in Malaysia
1) Currency loss due to high import from other countries
- Malaysia import around $12 billion food from other countries

2) Depend on other countries for sources of food


- Lack of food security and food safety
What should do to have a Sustainable
Agrofood Production in Malaysia?
1) Increase paddy yield production (t/ha) in all the paddy granary
- Improve agronomy practices (sowing, fertilizing, harvesting)

2) Practicing urban agriculture


Ex: Vertical farming, soilless culture
