Process Paper

When I heard what the theme was last year, I immediately knew that I wanted to do the

evolution of computers. I didn’t know much about the evolution or history of computers, so I

chose this topic so I can learn more about computers. The topic was interesting to me because I

use computers almost every day and learning that the beginning of computers started in the

1940s was surprising. My topic is significant to history because since the 1940s, computers have

changed and they are a big part of people’s lives today.

When looking for research, there was a lot of important information that I wanted to use.

At first, it was easy, but as I went to look for more information it surprisedly got harder. The

sources I used were mainly web pages. The things I’ll look up for research all came in web

pages, so I didn’t feel the need to look for magazine articles, newspaper articles, or books. Most

of my resources are from regular websites that aren’t technology-related, but some of them did

actually come from technology-related websites. My best moment of searching for resources was

looking things up for my NHD essay. It was really easy since I had specific things I wanted to

use in the essay, so I found resources I really liked. After finding those resources, I was really

satisfied and happy with what I ended up finding. I didn’t get any of my resources from archives

or museums and I didn’t interview experts.

When it was time to start the NHD projects, I was thinking about doing a website unlike

an exhibit, which I did last year. I figured that doing a website would be better and easier to do

since I have some experience with making them. The first thing I did was to figure out my title,

thesis, and my main points I wanted to talk about. Then, I founded web pages and images that

would support my main point. After I got the sources, I made the annotated bibliography. Then I
went to create my website. Although I have experience with making websites, I’m very

uncreative with the way I make them. There wasn’t much thinking for the layout since I couldn’t

come up with one. So, I chose a simple one, with 2 pieces of information with pictures beside

them.

Since the theme of this year was communication in history, I can say my topic fits the

theme. Social media is one of many ways people communicate with each other today. It’s

extremely to people of all ages, with hundreds of social media platforms to use. The only

element I focused on was the communication part, I didn’t really talk about the history of it. I

find it easier and fascinating to discuss how social media affected communication rather than to

talk about the history of it.
