Sam Harris, a neuroscientist, modern-day philosopher, and best-selling author, said: “Human
well-being is not a random phenomenon. It depends on many factors – ranging from genetics and
neurobiology to sociology and economics. But clearly, there are scientific truths to be known about how
we can flourish in this world. Whenever we can have an impact on the well-being of others, questions of
morality apply.” Give your reflection on the relationship of scientific and technological progress and
human flourishing based on the statement of Sam Harris.

The stamen says that although there are numerous factors in what makes the human well-being
flourish, there are some obvious choices we can do to make it flourish. Let’s say happiness. Though we
have different levels of happiness, we know how different everyone perceives happiness globally. That is
where scientific and technological progress comes about.

Using the scientific and technological data we gather, we can pinpoint the course of action every
society should do for the betterment of our well-being.
