Section B: ACCREDITAT Code of Conduct for Teachers:

Question 2:
One of the key principles of the ACCREDITAT Code of Practice for Teachers is that a teacher
should be dedicated to the principle of equal opportunity for all.
How will you ensure equal opportunity for all in your classrooms? (250-500 words)

In order for me to make and maintain an environment with equal opportunity for all, first I have
to determine the levels of proficiency for all of my students. Once I know how much each of them
knows, what is their weak spot and what they need to work on, I can start thinking of ways of
teaching that would help them improve the most. In the presentation stage of the class, I would
make sure that even the weakest students understand the material. Then I would prepare easier
tasks for the beginning of the practise stage, in order to boost their confidence, but I would also have
more advanced tasks for the students that finish quickly, so they wouldn't have to wait for the others
to finish. I would ask weaker students as many CCQs as possible, in order to make sure that they
understand the new material. Project work is also a great activity if the students are divided into
groups consisted of both weaker and stronger students. They can divide the tasks among
themselves, that way everyone does as much as they can. I would also try to make sure I present
new material in many different ways, so all kinds of learners can understand it. I would try to make
sure my students feel safe and not embarrassed to speak, or be afraid of other students making fun
of them if they make a mistake. I would do this by praising them even if they make a smaller error
and have clear classroom rules about students supporting each other when they speak. If a student
is having trouble with understanding a new lesson, I would try to get one of the stronger students
to explain it to them, as I think this would help both of them, because the weaker student might
understand something easier if it is coming from someone who thinks similar to them and the
stronger student would practice new material by trying to explain it to someone in many different
ways.
