“One should not undertake a special journey other than towards the three mosques: the sacred
mosque ( Makkah), this mosque of mine (Madinah), and Al-Aqsa mosque (Jerusalem)”

‫اﻤﻟﺴﺠﺪ اﻻﻗﻰﺼ‬
Al-Masjid-ul-Aqsa, meaning the furthest mosque.
Location: Al-Quds (Jerusalem), Palestine.
History: This masjid was the second house of worship built on Earth, forty
years after Al-Masjid-ul-Haram in Makkah by Prophet Ibrahim and his sons.

Jerusalem Prophet Muhammad visited Al-Masjid-ul-Aqsa in a miraculous trip from


Makkah, which is known as Al-Israa'. He led all the prophets in a spiritual prayer
there before he went up to heavens in another trip, called Al-Mi'raj.

‫اﻟﻘﺪس ا�ﺮﺸ�ﻒ‬ Major Landmarks: The noble rock which Prophet Muhammad climbed on it
before he went up to heavens. It is now covered with a beautiful dome called
Qubbat-us-Sakhrah, which means the dome of the rock.
Importance: It is the third holiest masjid in Islam. It was also the first qiblah for
muslims before they were instructed to pray toward Al-Masjid-ul-Haram in
Makkah. Praying one prayer in Al-Masjid-ul-Aqsa is rewarded 500 times more
than praying in your local masajid. Muslims are encouraged to travel to it to
worship and connect to the memories of the prophets that lived or visited Al-Quds.
Capacity: The landscape is around 144,000 square-meters. However, the structural
portion of Al-Masjid-ul-Aqsa can accommodate more than 5000 worshippers.
Current Situation: The masjid is currently occupied by the Israeli forces and is severely
threatened by their excavations that my, God forbid, cause damage to this holy mosque.

‫اﻤﻟﺴﺠﺪ اﻨﻟﺒﻮي‬
Al-Masjid-un-Nabawi, meaning the Prophet's Mosque.
Location: Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
History: Prophet Muhammad built this masjid upon his arrival to Madinah,
when he migrated from Makkah, thirteen years after he became a messenger.
Major Landmarks: Ar-Rawdah, meaning the garden, which is the space in the masjid
between the prophet's grave and his pulpit. Other landmarks include the tombs of
Prophet Muhammad, Abu Bakr and Omar Ibn-ul-Khattab ( R ). All of these
Al-Madinah landmarks are located at the southeast corner of the masjid under the beautiful green dome.
Importance: This is the second holiest masjid in islam. Muslims around the world

‫اﻤﻟﺪﻳـﻨﺔ اﻤﻟﻨﻮرة‬
are encouraged to travel there for the purpose of worshipping Allah and connecting
with the memories of Prophet Muhammad. Praying one prayer in Al-Masjid-un-
Nabawi is rewarded 1,000 times more than praying in your local masajid.
Capacity: The landscape is around 400,000 square meters, and it can
accommodate around 1 million worshippers.
Current Situation: The Masjid is in Madina, in the western part of present
Saudi Arabia.

Makkah
‫�ﻜـﺔ اﻤﻟﻜﺮﻣﺔ‬

‫اﻤﻟﺴﺠﺪ اﺤﻟﺮام‬
Al-Masjid-ul-Haram, meaning the Sacred Mosque.
Location: Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
History: This masjid was the first house of worship built on earth. The Holy Qur’an
confirms that Allah had ordered Prophet Ibraheem to build the house, and he did with
the help of his son Isma’eel.Some historical reports say that Prophet Adam was
the first one to build this mosque, but it was demolished during the years after.
Major Landmarks: Al-Ka'bah, which means the cubic building, is the holiest spot in
Islam, and the original structure of the masjid. It is located at the center of Al-Masjid-
ul-Haram. Other landmarks include the spring of zamzam, the monument of
maqam Ibraheem, and the little mounts of safa and marwah.
Importance: Al-Ka’bah is the qiblah for all Muslims. Muslims around the world must
pray toward Al-Masjid-ul-Haram. Millions of muslims also travel there to worship
and perform hajj and omrah. Praying one prayer in Al-Masjid-ul-Haram is rewarded
100,000 times more than praying in your local masajid.
Capacity: The landscape is around 600,000 square meters, and it can
accommodate around 1.5 million worshippers.
Current Situation: The masjid is located in Makkah in the western part of present
