1. Materials and Equipment:

● Computer/Chromebook: Students and teachers will use this to access the


learning and teaching platforms.
● Schoology: Students and teachers will use this learning/ teaching platform to
access the lesson and activities.
● Paper: Students can use paper to write their thoughts.
● Pencil: Students can use it to write with.
● Writer’s notebook: Students can use it to gather details and information for their
writing activity.

2. Instructional Objective*:

Students will know how to write an opening statement and be able to add it in their
writing.

3. Instructional Procedures:

I Do:
● Teacher will introduce the lesson on how to use an opening statement to begin
their personal essay.
● Teacher will go over learning targets for the lesson.
○ Teacher will ask students to gather all their materials.
● Teacher will explain that they are writing their opening statement.
○ Teacher will model using examples in writing the sentences.

We Do:
● As a class we will write an example together in identifying the opening statement.
○ Using information from the provided essay.
You Do:
● Students will write their own opening statements.
○ Teacher will assist students in the classroom and on zoom as needed.
Closure:
● Students will be asked to reconvene as a whole group.
● Students will be asked to write their opening statements next to their name on
the “splash board” discussion board to share their opening statement.

4. Assessment:
I will be able to assess their understanding and meeting of the objective by viewing their
response on the splash board. Their forming of the opening statement will be evident
that they have met the objective.

5. Differentiated Instruction:

Students who need extra support will be able to work one on one with the teacher during
the allotted enrichment time. Students who are advanced can continue on to adding more
detail their anchor chart.
