1- Loose parts

Based on the concept of grouping the material, I chose the group of metal first and I
collect a different shape and size of metal in order to make the children recognize the
material first and the texture of it, and let them experience the sound that produce form
the metal. Secondly, I chose the group of neutral material like pine corn, wood, shells
and rocks. In order to involving the children into the outdoor activities, so that they will
learn about the nature, Furthermore, they will manipulate the environment. And then for
the third time I chose a group of materials with a different colours and shapes which
helps me to invite math and science in that task, in order to make the children learn
about shapes, colours and how to count. The last group was about choosing mixed
materials all at once, giving the children a great chance to classified, critical and
creative thinking, manipulate the environment and give a free rein to their imaginations
to create any shape based on their story and past experience. In my opinion, teaching
the children gradually or set by step method, gives a good chance to the children to
learn effectively. Moreover, all the materials that I chose are very similar to what I used
in play in my childhood.

Children get huge benefits by involving loose part in their learning and play. According
to, Dempsey and Strickland, (1993)” loose parts encourage children to manipulate their
environment”. loss parts promote active learning , deepen critical thinking , promote
divergent and creative thinking and support all of developmental domains like physical
development, social , emotional development and cognitive development .Moreover,
children learn through self-directed play so that loose parts promote a wide range of
play like functional play, constructive play and dramatic play. In addition, loose parts are
also captivating to infants and toddler in the same way with a bit difference. Gerber,
(2013),” babies are those which allow them to be as active and competent as possible
at every stage of development”. Infants use their senses to investigate loose parts, so
that loss parts support the infants social-emotional learning like self-knowledge, self-
regulation, self-esteem, and social development. loss pares also promote motor
learning for the infants and toddlers, and it plays a huge role in language and
communication learning and development for infants and toddlers.

Pedagogy is “the understanding of how learning take place and the philosophy and
practice that support that understanding of learning “Early Learning for every Child
Today,(Ministry of Education,Ontario,2007), Pedagogy happened through four important
foundation, which thy determine the children future and what experience that get each
and every day, regardless children age, ability, culture, geography and language .The
four foundations are Belonging, Well-being, Engagement, and Expression.
“Engagement is the way that the children being involved and focused with their world
around them, using their natural curiosity and exploring. When the child totally engaged,
they develop many essential skills, such as problem solving, creative thinking and
innovation, which are very important to success in school and earlier.
Expression or communication, children communicate by using their bodies, sound,
words, and use of materials. That communication develops to a complex
communication through exploring the materials which promote creativity, problem
solving and mathematical behaviors’ addition, language-rich environment promotes
child communication skill, which are essential for literacy.

I selected this photo because it is a very creative play involving a basic material like
carton and plastic boxes with amazing shape which give a good opportunity to the
children to explore and manipulate their environment and discover the nature. it also
covered many kinds of play like functional play, constructive play, dramatic and
symbolic play. In addition, the loose parts could be use indoor or outdoor. I think that we
can add different loss parts material to that, like rocks, shell, pin corn, and metal part, in
order to deepen the play and motivate the children to create their own story! That loss

That photo captivates me for many reasons, the loose parts are open ended, very
colourful, attractive, and easy to deal with. Children can create endless idea from it.
That loose part accommodates infant and toddler age group. The loose parts in that
photo meet the requirement for infant toys, they are in perfect size and safe to be use,
easy to be clean and sanitizing. They promote emotional learning like self-regulation,
self-esteem and perceptual-motor learning and development.
