Impact of European Settlements

Directions: Create a pre-activity explanation of how and why European settlers shaped the natural
environment. Then complete the assigned number of illustration analysis. Lastly complete the
post-activity explanation using the information from this activity

Pre-Activity Explanation
How and why did European Settlers Shape the natural environment?

The european settlers shaped the natural environment by introducing new plants and animals to the
region. Domesticated animals such as cattle and swine were brought to the lands of the americas and each
species flourished and thrived within each land. These animals then became impactful, their hides used for
things such as clothing and weapons, while their meat became nutritious and helped to create these
civilizations. They brought in plants which were completely unknown to the lands. Different kinds of grain
such as wheat, rye, and barley immediately grew and became part of the ecosystem.

How did they interact with the land?

It shows how they usually hunted. As stated earlier, they rode in horses and brought along their guns, dogs,
or fishing rods to help them get the animals they need. They used the land to their advantage.

This shows the way homes were placed. Fields were still a necessity, so they made sure that there was still
enough space for them to have their fields in order to have their crops growing to sustain the civilization.
Homes were huddled and squeezed together, while still having enough space to make roads.

“modernized” their equipment is for that certain time.

Post-Activity Explanation
How and why did European Settlers Shape the natural environment? (this explanation needs to be more in
depth, thoughtful, and longer than your original explanation)

The European settlers shaped the natural environment to give themselves a new land to settle in. of
course, they first came in for the necessary resources, but became amazed at the broad variety of things
the new land brought to them. They immediately began to make homes, and explored new ways to get
resources. They discovered that hunting was definitely a way to get things they needed and started
hunting birds and deer. Not only that, but they discovered that fishing was very efficient. They began to
fish, and some settlements became very industrialized when it came to fishing.
