ACTIVITY TITLE: PUT THE DOTS!

LEARNING TARGETS: a. able to learn how to draw the lewis dot structure on elements
REFERENCE(S) Exploring Life Through Science, Sta. Ana, Susan T., pp. 73-74
(Title, Author, Pages)

Lewis dot symbol includes the symbol of the elements representing the core and the valence electrons
represented as dots.

Valence electrons are the total number of electrons required around an atom to be stable. It is the same
as the group number of elements in the periodic table. The vertical row arrangement of elements is also
the number of valence electron.

For example:

Be – Beryllium has 2 valence electrons

P – Phosphorus has 5 valence electrons

In drawing the dots, make sure that there is balance in the four sides. To complete the 8 valence
electrons, there must be 2 electrons on each side.
