MEASUREMENT UNITS (DISTANCE/QUANTITY/WEIGHT/LENGHT/VOLUME)

This workshop attempts to help you strengthen your Math skills in English, by using the
language in the development and understanding of measurement units, quantities, prices of
products from your model company.

Objective: from the development of this workshop, you will be able to talk about products
measurement and quantities at your model company’s offerings.

1. Work in groups and discuss:


- How can you describe quantities?
Used to say intensity, magnitude of degree
- Mention some units to refer to quantities.

- Give some examples of offerings or sales at your model company.

2. Skills practice: do the following activities to practice the learnt vocabulary and English

Measurement: The test is based on the measurement of blood levels.

Weight: the amount that something or someone weighs


Volume: the amount of space that is contained within an object or solid shape:
Quantify: to measure or judge the size or amount of something
Package: something that is covered in paper so that it can be sent by post
Heavy: Heavy objects weigh a lot.
Light: an object that produces light
Distance: the length of the space between two places

Length: how long something is from one end to the other

Units of Measurement: life cycle have been estimated,

 convert them to a common unit of measurement to properly compare competing 


alternatives

Quantity: the amount or number of something, especially that can be measured

Amount: a collection or mass, especially of something that cannot be counted

Standard: a level of quality

Standardized: to make things of the same type all have the same basic features:

Conversion: the process of converting something from one thing to another:

Kilometer: a unit of measurement equal to 1,000 meters

Hectometer: one hundred metres: 1 hectometre is equivalent to 328.089 feet.

Decimeter: correction sources have an accuracy of approximately 40 cm (1.31 ft).

Centimeter: Short period oscillations and wavelength centimeter or meter.

Millimeter: Millimeter scale printed on the surface convenient to build sophisticated terminals.

Gram: its gross weight is 100 grams

Kilogram: Type the number of Kilogram per cubic metre (kg/m³) you want to convert in the text
box, to see the results in the table.

Now, work in groups. Select one cell phone type, read every device characteristics and
prepare an oral presentation, taking into account your instructors guideline. Look for

Samsung has produced another excellent productivity-focused device with the Samsung
Galaxy Note 8, making it one of the best smartphones for business. Thanks to the large
Infinity Display you get loads of screen space to work on, without the body being too bulky to
carry around, and the S Pen stylus is something not a lot of other phones can offer and the
all-round speed is almost breathtaking at times. It's certainly worth looking at if you want a

2.3. SPEAKING PRACTICE: oral presentation of products

Suppose that you’re part of a marketing department, and you’re planning Christmas sales in the
countries you presented previously. Work in groups

- Promote kits/packages/combos for selling you.


- Give detailed information such as: quantities (conversion in pounds, liters, meters etc),
prices (conversion: Pesos, dollars, Euros etc)
- Present it to the class using pictures, posters, media and all the materials that would
help you lead your presentation.

2.4. WRITING PRACTICE: write a data sheet about a product.

Suppose that you are part of a car company. Make a flyer giving details of one brand you’re
selling. Include features and characteristics such as:

- Name, release year, features, size, power (engine), speed, weight, price and other
information relevant to present your product.
- Give a description to make the car important to be bought.
